10 Essential Car Maintenance Tips you should know.
Keeping your car in good shape to check unexpected breakdowns takes a routine of hard work but trust me it’s worth it.
Here we’ve prepared 10 basics car care and maintenance tips to keep your vehicle in optimum operating performance.
1. Check engine oil and filter regularly
The oil in a car engine is like the blood running in the veins of the body.
The oil level should be checked regularly, and be changed if it looks dirty. Oil filters should be replaced when engine oil is changed because the old one already contains dirt particle from the old oil, which will mix with the new one if not changed too.
2. Drive carefully
Never accelerate your car engine when not in motion or immediately after startup, as these will make the engine wear quickly.
Love your car, drive with car and save yourself from unnecessary repairs and spare part costs.
3. Wash your car regularly
Regular washing of the car makes it clean and free from accumulated dirt that could cause corrosion. The interiors should be well vacuumed to remove dirts that could build up to cause wears. This keeps your car neat and attractive and, believe me, will increase the resale value.
4. Park in the shade
Parking your car in the shade prevents interior damages by UV rays especially on the dashboard, it also makes the car paint fade.
Use a car shade if a shaded area isn’t available.
5. Pay attention to your tyres
Check your tyre pressure regularly and keep them inflated to the recommended pressure. Do not forget the extra tyre too. Also have you wheel alignment checked every 50,000km to increase your tyre life and prevent steering problems.
6. Clean your car engine
You can have your engine cleaned professionally but if you choose to do it yourself, make sure all the engine’s sensitive components including air intake distributor and electric parts are well covered with plastic bags before you start. An engine kept clean always will run in its best performance and will be easier to spot leaks and service components.
7. Change spark plugs
Experts recommend changing spark plugs every 50,000km to ensure high engine performance.
8. Replace windshield wipers
If you’ve ever driven a car with damaged wipers when it rains, you’ll know how important those guys are. If you hear squeaking noises on your windscreen when the wipers are on, then it’s time to replace them.
9. Replace broken light bulbs immediately
These fixtures are extremely important and should never be neglected, trust me you don’t want to drive a car with damaged lights especially at night. It unsafe for the driver and other motorists as well.
10. Schedule your car for an annual maintenance check
Do not let your busy schedule keep you from creating time to book an appointment with a reliable mechanic for a thorough all round maintenance drill. Do not wait till your car starts making unnecessary noises and breaking down unexpectedly before you take it for a maintenance check.
