Throwback to last Sunday during the crazy fuel scarcity when i had to leave home at 6am to go queue for fuel, well i actually got there late because the fuelling station gate to where i joined the queue was close to 2km.
My neighbour drove out of the compound to join the queue before 4am from this same place and guess what, i bought fuel before him. Don't ask me how i did it 🤪🤪🤪
During the struggle and wait for the long queue to move, i got a distress call from a customer on the queue at the other fuelling station close to where i was about his car refusing to start.
After i was able to get fuel around 1pm and already heading home, my neighbour called as well that his car has refused to start after buying fuel.
Went to check both cars and they were both having one issue; BATTERY
An unexpected flat battery can be a big inconvenience and a serious headache whenever it refuses to start the car. Quite a few of these cases are due to our undoing and negligence.
Firstly, using electronic accessories when the engine isn't running gradually reduces the health and life span of your car battery.
Keeping your headlights, and/or interior lights on, or turning the ignition on to run the infotainment system without starting the engine, can drain the battery. This is because your car’s alternator is shut down when the engine is switched off, so electronic accessories instead drain power from your car’s battery.
Don’t be shocked if you lift the hood of your car and catch sight of some corrosion around your battery terminals. Battery corrosion is a normal part of battery life that can be caused by typical wear and tear. But just because it’s normal doesn’t mean you should ignore it. In fact, corroded battery terminals are a common cause of reduced battery life and electrical problems in vehicles.
If your car is inactive for days at a time, the battery won’t have sufficient time to recharge.
Your car will perform at its best when it’s used regularly, so if possible, take it out for a 30-minute drive at least once a week to warm up the engine and circulate your car’s fluids.
If it will be left unused for more than two weeks, it’s likely your car battery will need attention when you next use your car.
I hope this helps someone out there. And please don't forget to share. 😁😁
