Macaneta Flooding – January 2026
The past few days have shown just how strong and united this community really is.
Benjamin Heyneke and James Stuart have been out on the water for the last three days, among the first to respond to community evacuations. From sunrise until well after 8pm, they’ve been evacuating families to safety and offering support wherever it’s needed. I’m incredibly proud of the quiet, tireless work they’ve been doing.
This has all been happening alongside the challenges of flooding at our own property in Macaneta, including the evacuation of our horses — a reminder that so many people have been affected in different ways.
A huge thank you as well to everyone who has helped, checked in, shared information, offered boats, time, strength, and kindness. It truly takes a village, and Macaneta has shown up.
