“ My name is A . I once lived in a foreign country . I was 12 years old at the time when I lived there for my studies . For common Muslim parents , whenever you reach the puberty age , it is compulsory to cover yourself and wear a hijab . So , at that time , I started to wear the hijab, and I somehow felt uncomfortable wearing them at that moment since I was not in the state where I was ready to wear them yet . But because of my parents , I have no choice but to heed to their instruction .

There were days that I was too anxious to leave home because the idea of people staring at me was too much to think about. I still have bad days, but for the most part my hijab is now intrinsic to my identity. For some Muslim women, however, the external impacts of wearing a veil become too much for their mental health. Amidst a growing climate of Islamophobia, many Muslim women who wear hijab are choosing to remove them due to the pressure . Some of my friends who have already removed it stated that the treatment they receive now is so different from the past when they wear hijab, which is upsetting .

From my perspective , the hijab itself carries a huge responsibility to the wearer . It symbolizes the dignity and purity of Islam . It takes a lot of effort in order to consistently wear them . People need to have a better understanding about the stance of hijab nowadays and longer oppress one to wear a hijab . I hope that people will have respect for our religion and let us have a life of peace as much as other religions have . “

Girl's talk #14 - What Hijab Style Suits Your Face Shape?

When it comes to hijab , there are varieties of ways in styling the hijab . However , not all styles are suitable for our face shape since one face shape is different from one another . Lets identify what kind of face shape you have and what kind of hijab style that will suit your face shape !

1. Square face
For a square face ,wearing your hijab loosely around the sides of your face to offset the lines of your jaw is the secret to keeping it in a stable state.

2. Round face
Allow your hijab to fall closer to your face when wearing it so that the edges are straighter. The facial curves will be highlighted if you wrap it securely around your face. Also, try to keep your hijab from resting too low on your forehead.

3. Heart shaped face
A heart-shaped face has a forehead that’s the widest part of the face while the chin is pointed. To balance this face shape, wrap more layers of your hijab around the neck.

4. Rectangular face
The key to wearing a hijab with this face type is to either wear it low on the forehead, or to wear an under-cap that fits just above the brows.

5. Oval face
If you have an oval face shape then you can get away with almost any hijab style. However, maintain balance in your hijab style regardless of the way you wrap it. If you wrap it tight around the face, keep it loose around the neck.

1. Women are not forced to wear hijabs
Some women choose to wear the hijab because it is a national tradition of their country of origin, or because it is the norm in their local area, city or country. Others wear it to demonstrate their commitment to dressing modestly and for religious reasons. Like any item of clothing, some women wear the hijab for specific occasions, such as for family or community events, or during particular times of day but take it off at other times, such as wearing the hijab to and from school or work but taking it off while studying or working.

2. You’re not sexually oppressed
Many hijab wearers have said that they wear the veil not as a symbol of control by a man, but rather to promote their own feminist ideals. For those who still baby step into the hijab journey , here some tips to help you get started on your new journey .

1. Wear it for the sake of Allah (SWT)
The most important part in starting the journey is to set the intention to wear the hijab for the sake of Allah SWT. Take the first step and He will take care of the rest.

2. Make the decision to start
Set a day and don’t back down from your decision. Leading up to the day, offer Salat istikharah (prayer for guidance), ask Allah (SWT) for strength, and remember the power of patience and faith.

3. Work your way up to proper hijab
It is not a good idea to haste in fully covering yourself , especially for the beginner . It can be overwhelming and might change the idea of yours to cover yourself . So , start your step one by one , starting with what you’re comfortable with. Just like a saying goes , slowly but surely .

4. Give yourself a chance and have faith in Allah (SWT)
No matter what anyone says, making the decision to start wearing hijab is between you and your Creator. You may stumble, you may even fall, but try and try again and you will reach your goal.

5. Start with a friend
When embarking into a new journey , it is better to have some moral support to push you forward into changing yourself for the better .
