Today, MATTA boasts a membership of over 3,000 members, comprising local tour and travel organizations as well as numerous overseas affiliations. It is also the national umbrella representative body for the entire travel industry in the country. With a full time secretariat in Kuala Lumpur, its headquarters, MATTA has state chapters in Kedah, Penang, Perak, Melaka, Negeri Sembilan, Pahang, Terengganu, Kelantan, Selangor, Johor, Sabah and Sarawak. MATTA's objective is to promote the interests of the travel and tour industry in Malaysia. MATTA works closely with the Ministry of Tourism (Motour) as well as Malaysia Tourism Promotion Board (MTPB), help organise fairs, seminars, convention and workshops both to create public awareness of the tourism industry as well as to benefit its members. OBJECTIVES
To unite, supervise and coordinate the activities of the members. To publicise, encourage, promote and extend the tourist and travel trade. To adjudicate and settle any differences which may arise between members whenever its arbitration is requested by both parties concerned. To develop friendship and common purpose among the members of the tourist and travel industry. To make representations on behalf of members to Government and all organisations with which the Association has common interest. To encourage the highest ethical standards of business conduct within the trade. To study and promote the interest of the tourist and travel trade and profession and to educate the public regarding the function of tours and travel agents. Following the press conference on 07 April 2026, the Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA) Sabah Chapter is pleased to announce recent developments for MATTA Fair Sabah 2026, taking place from 17–19 April at the Sabah International Convention Centre. The Fair has demonstrated continued growth and strategic advancement with 167 confirmed booths surpassing expectations and reflecting strong confidence across both domestic and international travel sectors. The event will be officiated by YB Datuk Jafry Ariffin, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment Sabah on Saturday, 18 April 2026, underscoring its significance as a key platform for the state’s tourism industry.

In collaboration with the Sabah Tourism Board, the event highlights a shared commitment to sustainable and community-based tourism while supporting broader initiatives such as Explore Sabah 2027. Supported by strong industry partnerships and a strategic focus on regional markets, MATTA Fair Sabah 2026 is set to deliver a more impactful and forward-looking industry showcase.

36TH SABAH CHAPTER ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING, 10 MARCH 2026 - KOTA KINABALU

On 10 March 2026, the 36th Sabah Chapter Annual General Meeting was successfully convened at Citadines Waterfront Kota Kinabalu, followed by an iftar dinner.

During the meeting, MATTA President, Mr. Nigel announced the results of the election for the Sabah Chapter Committee for the 2026–2029 term. Mr. Alex Chong of Al Hakim Travel & Tours Sdn Bhd was elected as Chairman, with Mr Noordin Bin Sabtu of Nurnielamsari Travel Sdn. Bhd serving as Deputy Chairman. The newly elected committee members will officially assume office following the National AGM in June 2026.

We extend our heartfelt congratulations to the new committee members and our appreciation to all members who attended. Together, we remain committed to strengthening and advancing Sabah’s tourism industry.
