๐ด +++ BREAKING +++ The supported 243 people from three boats over the weekend and found a fourth, empty boat. +++ BREAKING +++
"On Saturday afternoon, our crew targeted 78 people on a wooden boat fit to sea." After stabilizing the situation, the survivors were evacuated shortly after by the Italian Coast Guard.
According to a report by the Sea-Watch observation aircraft Seabird 3, NADIR found another boat with people in distress at sea: about 88 people on a wooden boat. They were also subsequently brought safely to Lampedusa by the Coast Guard - before the weather expected to deteriorate significantly on Sunday.
En route to deliver a special report in Lampedusa, the Frontex aircraft Sparrow 2 reported another marine emergency near NADIR. The crew searched overnight into the early morning hours to eventually find the boat empty and unmarked.
The fate of the people who were on board is unknown. We don't know if they drowned in the storms of the last few days, or if they were illegally stopped and forced back.
After the report was submitted in Lampedusa on Sunday, the NADIR immediately went back into the sea to respond to the fourth emergency of the weekend, reported again by Seabird 3. Despite the complete darkness, our crew was able to find the 77 people and stabilize the situation. Due to rough sea conditions, two people went overboard. They were quickly evacuated by the tender crew of NADIR and were able to go aboard the Coast Guard shortly after, along with all the other survivors. โ
