Tesla has confirmed October 1 as the unveiling date for its next-generation Roadster, ending nine years of waiting since the car was first shown in 2017. The announcement came via a teaser image reading "10.01" alongside the phrases "Go for launch" and "Where we're going," language that fits reporting about what the demonstration may involve. The Information recently reported that Tesla has been preparing a demonstration at SpaceX's rocket testing facility in McGregor, Texas, where a limited-edition Roadster fitted with cold-gas thrusters would lift off the ground. Nobody would be inside, with the car operated remotely because the thrusters produce enough force and noise to make occupancy impractical, and spectators reportedly kept several hundred yards back. The production car is expected to run a tri-motor powertrain with advanced battery technology, with the SpaceX thruster package offered as an option on a separate limited variant that may not be road legal. Tesla's original 2017 figures called for 620 miles of range, 0-60 in 1.9 seconds and a top speed above 250 mph, numbers still listed on the company's website today.
