Rare Seen in Wild 💚

Elephant fights in the wild are a natural part of elephant behavior, especially among adult males. 🐘

🐘 Why do elephants fight?
• Mating competition: Male elephants may fight to compete for access to females.
• Dominance: Bulls may challenge each other to establish who is stronger.
• Musth: Adult males periodically enter musth, a period of very high testosterone and heightened aggression. During this time, they may challenge other males.
• Food and water: Fights can happen when resources are limited, particularly during dry periods.
• Protecting space: Elephants may use aggressive displays to defend an area or discourage another elephant from approaching.

⚔️ How do they fight?

Usually, elephants don’t immediately attack. They first warn each other by:
• Flapping their ears
• Raising their heads
• Trumpeting
• Shaking their heads
• Making mock charges

If neither animal backs down, bulls may push, shove and lock tusks, using their enormous strength.

WORLD ELEPHANT DAY

Currently, there are 3 elephant species in the world - the African Savanna Elephant, the African Forest Elephant, and the Asian Elephant. There are 4 subspecies of the Asian Elephant - the Sri Lankan Elephant, the Indian Elephant, the Sumatran Elephant, and the Bornean Elephant.

African Savanna Elephants are the largest elephant species, while Bornean Elephants are the smallest elephants in the world. African Elephants weigh up to 6000 Kg (13,200 lbs). Bornean Elephants weigh up to 3000 Kg (6,600 lbs). Among Asian Elephants, the Sri Lankan Elephant is considered the largest subspecies (weighing up to 5500 Kg).

While male and female African Elephants have tusks, only male Asian Elephants have tusks. Notably, African Elephants also have larger ears. It's estimated that there are 415,000 African Elephants left in Africa, while there are less than 50,000 Asian Elephants left in Asia.

🚆 Passport/NIC Verification System Now Operational for Sri Lanka Train Bookings 🇱🇰

Sri Lanka Railways has launched a mandatory identification verification system for train ticket reservations.

⭕ All passengers now must provide NIC number (Sri Lankan citizens) or passport number (foreign nationals) when booking seats online or at counters, with original documents required for verification during boarding and ticket checks.

⭕ Policy applies exclusively to reserved seats on intercity, long-distance, and premium train services across all routes, while unreserved ticket purchases remain unaffected by this requirement.

⭕ System is designed to eliminate illegal resale activities, and stop black market sales that were inflating prices, particularly on popular tourist routes like Kandy-Ella.
