⚠️ Official Update – Maligawatha Youth Withdraws from I-League Semi-Final Clash ⚽
A dramatic end to Match No. 13 of the I-League semi-finals between Maligawatha Youth SC and Renown SC, played at Sugathadasa Stadium, has taken a decisive turn.
The match, which was just 5 minutes away from full time, was called off following an unfortunate incident where fans invaded the pitch and assaulted the referee—protesting a disallowed goal due to an offside flag.
🏛️ A disciplinary committee was immediately formed to investigate the incident. After review, the committee issued a letter to Maligawatha Youth, stating:
The remaining 5 minutes must be played behind closed doors with police protection.
The goal will not be reviewed or changed, as per tournament rules.
Ground reservation fees for the replayed portion must be borne by Maligawatha Youth.
If Maligawatha Youth refuses to play, the win would be awarded to Renown SC.
📝 In response, Maligawatha Youth SC officially informed the committee that—after discussions with their players and management—they have decided not to play the remaining 5 minutes.
📢 As a result, Renown SC has been declared finalists of the I-League 2025.
