From the days when binge-watching meant the whole family huddled around a Great Wall TV, adjusting the antenna just right to catch KBC, to todayβs world of streaming Single Kiasi and Chocolate World, we have come a long, joyful way. Itβs a journey that reflects not just changing screens, but the growing freedoms and choices we now celebrate as a society
Today, we raise our glasses and salute the men and women who sacrificed everything so that our pride could be restored in the community home we proudly call Kenya. We honor the voices that ensured democracy would never be a foreign word found only in books, but a living right which is felt in our ability to assemble, to picket, to form parties, and above all, to freely tell our leaders what we think about the affairs of our country. Salute! to our freedom of speech.
We celebrate the days of the Peugeot 504, when even dreaming of owning a foreign engine felt like a victory earned coin by coin. Our celebration stretches wide and challenging long; from the determined walks of Saba-Saba that opened the door to multiparty democracy, to the promulgation of the 2010 Constitution that finally ushered in a new dawn to the country. Today, our voices rise not only in celebration, but in gratitude, to the brave Kenyan men and women of valor who made it possible for us to gather freely in our communities and enjoy the rich baskets of freedoms we now hold.
Happy Jamhuri Day to everyone, as we take a moment to sit back, breathe deep, and enjoy everything that makes us proudly Kenyans!
