Busy day at RMD

Another container locked and loaded and on its way out of Japan — packed floor to ceiling with quality stock for a very lucky customer.

Sportbikes, classics, scooters, the lot — every inch of space used, every bike strapped down tight and ready for the journey.

This one's full, but the next container's already taking shape. If you've got a dream collection in mind, drop us an email and let's start talking about what could be in it.

Ask Rick…
Is the used bike market drying up? Nah. It's not drying up, it's just getting smarter, and if you're not paying attention you'll miss where the real value's sitting.

Cheap runabouts are still shifting fine, that end of the market never really stops. But a generic bike with no papers, no history, nothing to back it up, that's the stuff gathering dust. Buyers today do their homework before they even pick up the phone, and a bike with mismatched numbers or a hazy past gets marked down fast.

What's moving, and moving well, is anything with a real story behind it. Genuine low miles, documented history, something you can actually trust the paper trail on. That's exactly why every bike I pull out of Japan, or find clean and rust-free out of California, comes with the history dug up and verified before it ever gets listed. It's not extra fuss for the sake of it, it's the difference between a bike holding its value and a bike sitting unsold.

A well-sorted CB750 or a Z900 with clean provenance isn't getting cheaper, it's getting harder to find. The eighties classics are quietly becoming the smart money.

So if you're after something proper, not just something available, that's the game I play.

Sourced right, checked out, history intact, and shipped to your door. Reach out if you're after something special. I've got a good idea where to look.

Another batch, boxed up and outbound.

Three more motorcycles, wrapped, crated, and strapped down tight, ready for the long haul from Japan to man caves on the other side of the world.

Every one of these bikes has already been through my hands: checked over, sorted, and packed the way I'd want mine packed if I was the one waiting on the other end. No shortcuts. No rush jobs. Just careful work so what left Japan clean arrives clean.

Somewhere out there, a few lucky owners are about to get a call that their dream bike has landed. That's the best part of this job.

More on the way. Watch this space

This is what "handled with care" actually looks like.

Every bike we ship gets wrapped, padded and crated by hand before it ever leaves Japan. Multiple layers of protective film over the paintwork, foam and blocking to stop movement in transit, and a custom timber crate built around the bike itself, not the other way round.

It's slower than slapping a bike on a pallet and hoping for the best. But when it's a clean, low mile Japanese import worth getting excited about, that extra hour of packing is what gets it to your door looking exactly like it did when we found it.

Worldwide shipping, done properly.

1975 Suzuki T500M "Titan" — Fully Restored

I was a kid when Suzuki started shipping these things stateside, and I still remember guys losing their minds over a two-stroke twin that could run all day without seizing on you.

This one's been done properly. Full nut and bolt rebuild, genuine NOS parts where they could find them, tinware refreshed with a mix of new and rechromed panels. Engine's still on standard bore, so there's plenty of life left in it before anybody needs to think about a rebore.

New chain and sprockets, brand new wiring loom, and every electrical system on the bike actually works, which on a fifty year old Suzuki is not something you can take for granted.

Little details that matter to me. NOS indicators with the correct Stanley lenses. A genuine Koito headlight, not a reproduction. The original tool kit still tucked behind the side panel where Suzuki put it in 1975. And the factory steering damper is present and refurbished, which almost never turns up on these anymore.

Exhaust is original chrome and still presentable, honest wear on the back of the left silencer. Rechrome it if you want it showroom, or if you fancy a bit more noise, it's a good base for a set of expansion chambers.

It starts, runs, and rides like a proper Titan should. That unstressed, unburstable character that made these things a legend in the first place.

Somebody's already done the hard work here. This is the rare one where you just get to enjoy it.

On my radar this week: a 1984 Yamaha RZV500R

Spotted this one up for auction in Yokohama and had to share it. If you know your two-stroke V4s you'll understand why.

People mix up the RZV500R and the RD500LC all the time. Same basic DNA, both liquid-cooled reed-valve V4 two-strokes with YPVS, both essentially road-going versions of the factory YZR500 GP bike. But they're not the same machine.

The RZV was Japan-only. Full aluminum Deltabox frame from day one, tuned a little harder, and never watered down for export emissions rules.

The RD500LC is the version most riders in the UK and Europe actually grew up wanting, sold through official dealer networks off the back of Kenny Roberts and the 500GP glory days. Early ones ran a steel/aluminum hybrid frame before Yamaha caught up with the full aluminum chassis later in the run.

Collectors tend to rate the RZV higher. Rarer, JDM only, and it had the better frame from the start.

This particular bike is grade 3, just over 13,000km, white and red YPVS colors. Still available at the time of writing. Worth a look if you're after something with real GP pedigree under the paint.

NOW SOLD: 1991 Yamaha FZR400RR
This FZR400RR is showing only 3,891 KM and it looks it. Plastics and tank are in great shape, no crash damage anywhere, and the inside of the tank is clean as you'd hope. As far as I can tell this bike has led a charmed life.

She's been sitting for a good while so she'll need a full service before she's road ready, and the carbs will need a clean, but the engine runs.

Fork tubes had some pitting so we're throwing in a new set with the bike, no charge. A bit of corrosion on the engine covers and some light surface rust here and there,

One key works the ignition and all the locks, which tells you it hasn't been messed with over the years.

These 400RRs are getting hard to find in this kind of condition. If you've been looking for a clean one to bring back to life, this is it.

Morning folks,
Just had a shipping container roll in from California, 18 bikes and a stack of parts, straight off the boat and into the yard.

This is the kind of haul that doesn't come around often. Kawasaki Z1 900, KZ1000, KZ550, Honda CB750, and couple of Harleys thrown in for good measure. All sourced clean and rust-free from the West coast.

Restoration to ready to ride, and enough spares in the mix to keep a few projects alive for years.

I'll be going through the container piece by piece over the next few days and posting what turns up. If you want first look, or you're after something specific, email me direct and I'll sort you out before it goes anywhere else.

Every now and then a bike comes through here that stops me in my tracks, and the Z1000J does it every time. I was already a grown man riding by 1981, but this thing still felt like the future back then. A thousand cc's, four cylinders, air cooled, and enough muscle to make a grown man grin like an idiot on a Sunday morning ride.

That was the era when Kawasaki built the J specifically to run with the big boys under the new 1000cc superbike rules, and it went on to become the backbone of the Eddie Lawson Replica. Kenny Roberts era racing, real steel frames, real carburetors you could actually work on yourself in your own garage. No computers telling the bike what to do. Just you, 102 horsepower, and good sense.

I remember when these were just the bike everybody's buddy had, nothing special, just another Kawasaki in the parking lot. Funny how time works. Now they're the ones collectors are hunting down, clean examples getting harder to find every year, and every one that turns up with its original blue and gold paint still looking sharp takes me right back.

They don't build them like this anymore, and honestly, I'm not sure they build the times like this anymore either.
