The time has come for us to put our truck up for sale. Here are the details:
2001 Mazda Titan Dash
2.5L Diesel
5-Speed Manual Transmission
181,000 Kilometers
6 Seater
2WD Dually
1.25 Ton Load Capacity
JCI October 2024
PROS:
Mazda doesn’t actually make trucks and this is a rebadged Isuzu Elf. Isuzu is one of the higher end trucks made in Japan.
The 2.5L Diesel is a highly desirable engine and you don’t see them up for sale often. They have the capability of reaching 750,000km with proper maintenance. Almost every Titan Dash for sale is a 2L gasoline or propane powered engine.
The truck is in excellent mechanical condition and fun to drive. It has a ton of torque and even cruising around at 35kph in 5th gear feels amazing.
The tank is small only holding about 50 liters of diesel and getting approximately 500 kilometers to a tank.
Within the last 18 months the battery, belts, and radiator hose have been changed. The fuel system was flushed earlier this month due to getting water in the fuel on base. Always buy off base, even if you’re in a pinch. The water never got past the fuel filter, so no internal damage.
The truck will be stateside eligible in December of 2026. If you’re staying that long, you can take it home with you on Uncle Sam’s dime.
The green bed cover is included with the sale.
The truck has an amazing turning radius. You can do a u-turn on 58 without even hitting the outside lane.
The truck is tough. A rental car and I backed into each other at the Olympic Shoppette. The rental car had $1000s of dollars in damage and I couldn’t even find the spot where it contacted my truck.
With the right attitude and effort, this truck has the potential to make you a lot of money.
CONS:
This truck is a 400 plate and requires a yearly JCI. I have taken it to a Japanese dealership for JCI and it is thoroughly inspected. JCI will cost $500-$600 at a dealership. It would be much cheaper to do it yourself, but I always like the reassurance that I get when the dealer inspects it.
If you live or work on Kadena, you can only access Gate 4. At Gate 4 they recognize the truck as a POV, so you do not have to go through the inspection line and can just drive on in. You can exit any gate.
The radio does not work. I just use a Bluetooth speaker plugged into an inverter. The inverter and speaker come with the truck, so you can also use that for any plug in device.
The passenger power window occasionally stops working. If you open the driver’s door a couple inches, it will work. There’s a pinched wire somewhere.
The air conditioner blows cold, but the control panel is stuck on defrost and feet, so it will not blow directly at you. I never use the AC and just ride with the windows down.
There is some rust, but it is purely cosmetic. The structural integrity of the truck is not compromised.
This is a work truck. There’s some spilled paint and caulking on and under the rear seat. The driver’s seat is starting to bust a seam. It’s not a show winner. This never bothered me. Rakuten does sell seat covers.
If you have any questions please feel free to ask. If you’d like to come take a look and test drive the truck, that can be arranged. If you do not know how to drive a 5MT, you’ll be riding with me as the driver.
My asking price is $6000 US. If you think that is too much, feel free to make an offer. My family and I are heading stateside next month, so if push comes to shove and you’ve got the highest offer then I will sell you the truck.
