Never judge a book by its cover. This is exactly the philosophy behind this Volkswagen Ameo. At first glance, it looks completely stock—but underneath, it’s a very different machine.
This Ameo 1.5 TDI originally came to us running a Stage 1 tune. The owner, Ashwin, wanted to take things much further and build a reliable Stage 3 setup. We had been planning this build for quite some time, but due to a few ongoing projects, we waited until we could dedicate the time it deserved.
Once everything was in place, we ordered a brand-new CR177 turbo along with an upgraded intercooler from KSM. As soon as the parts arrived, the car came into our workshop, and we completed both the hardware installation and custom software calibration within a week.
The real work, however, began after that. We spent the next two weeks road logging, analysing data, and fine-tuning the calibration. Ashwin joined us during the logging sessions, giving valuable real-world feedback that helped us refine the tune even further. Based on the logs and his inputs, we made several revisions until we were completely satisfied with the way the car performed.
After countless hours of testing and calibration, the result was exactly what we had aimed for—a fast, reliable, factory-looking sleeper that delivers Stage 3 performance while retaining its stock appearance.
Sometimes, the fastest cars are the ones that don’t look the part.
