Bajaj Pulsar 200SS Launch By March 2015
Bajaj Auto has been the company that introduced affordable sportbiking in India. Its Pulsar range of bikes have been the choice of many and now, it seems like the 200NS is all set to get a sibling in less than 2 months! Yes, the Bajaj Pulsar 200SS launch has been confirmed to take place by May this year. This piece of information comes from Rajiv Bajaj, Head of Bajaj Auto, who told media that the next Pulsar will be launched in this quarter. Various reports state that the Bajaj Pulsar 200SS has already started reaching dealerships, and the new model has also been spotted at the test track at BAL’s Chakan facility near Pune. While the Bajaj Pulsar 200SS launch in India is just around the corner, our guess is that these images have been taken during a media ride event held for selected media houses.
As we said earlier, the Pulsar 200 SS has been spotted in four different colours and here the spy pics showing the upcoming model in Yellow, Black, Blue and Red.
The Bajaj Pulsar 200SS will look almost exactly like the SS400 concept that was showcased at the Auto Expo 2014. You may check out our exclusive images of the SS400 to know what the 200SS looks like.
Up front, the bike comes with day time running LEDs. It is a love it or hate it design according to us, while it may look very edgy to some, others may find it too fussy. The full fairing of the bike will feature integrated turn indicators which would be borrowed from the Duke 200 and the bike will get a regular stubby exhaust instead of the underbelly exhaust of the naked sibling. The tail lamps would be LEDs as well.
The bike will be inspired from the KTM RC200 in some aspects and will be more KTM than a Bajaj. It will feature a 200cc motor that churns out a maximum power of 21 BHP PS@ 9,500 rpm and a peak torque of 18.3 Nm @8,000 rpm. Bajaj has been testing a Pulsar 200NS as well alongside this bike which we think will be a more powerful version of the same with a power output of around 23 BHP. The same state-of-tune might be carried on to the Bajaj Pulsar 200SS as well.
The Bajaj Pulsar 200SS will be a more touring-centric bike rather than being a racing/track bike like the Yamaha YZF R15 2.0. It will come shod with clip-on handle-bars that will aid the touring characteristics of the bike. The bike gets ABS for the Indonesian market and the same is expected to be offered here, at least as an option. The suspension unit is the same as the one found on the Pulsar 200NS.
Expect the Bajaj Pulsar 200SS to be priced around the Rs 1.3 lakh mark, ex-showroom. The Pulsar 200NS might get dearer by a couple of thousands. Bajaj is all set to showcase what it does the best, which is to give Indians an affordable sportbiking experience.
