Not every socket can take 16 amps.

High or low, you decide the flow. The Atom 3 Pro lets you set the charging current right on the gun — 8, 10, 13 or 16 A. No app, no control box, no guessing.

Old wiring. A shared meter. A socket in a building you don't own. Turn it down and it charges anyway — slower, but it charges.

And if you'd rather not think about any of that, don't. Leave it alone and the Pro works out the current for itself. The screen is still there to look at.

Both Atom 3 and Atom 3 Pro pull the same at full draw. The Pro just gives you a say in it — or the option not to care.

Everything that used to live in a control box now lives in the handle.

So you like control.

Both models charge at exactly the same speed — 3.5 kW, Type 2, same cable, and on both of them every protection lives inside the handle rather than in a box on the cable.

The Pro adds one thing: a screen. It does two things, and neither is what most people assume when they see a display on a charger. We'll show you both this week.

If you'd rather decide than just plug in, the Pro is the one. If you'd rather just plug in, the Atom 3 does that perfectly well and costs less. That's the entire difference, and we'd rather you bought the right one than the expensive one.

There are three objects in this product: a gun, a cable, and a plug.

One end goes into a wall socket. The other is a Type 2 connector that goes into the car. Everything between the two is cable, and that is the entire middle of it.

Most portable AC chargers have a fourth object — a control box moulded into the cable. It is where the protection electronics live, and it is the part you end up finding a place for every single time you charge.

The Atom 3 doesn't have one. Nothing was removed to achieve that; it was moved. Every protection that used to sit in that box now sits inside the handle.

Atom 3 and Atom 3 Pro. Both 3.5 kW, both Type 2. The Pro adds a display, four current settings and a timer.

Two of them, and only one difference between them.

Atom 3 is the plain one. You plug it in and it charges — nothing to set, nothing to read, which is usually the whole appeal.

Atom 3 Pro adds a screen that does two things. It lets you set the charging current to 8, 10, 13 or 16 amps, which matters more in India than it sounds: plenty of sockets won't take the full draw, and turning it down beats not charging. And it lets you set a timer, so it starts when you want it to.

Everything else is identical. Same Type 2 connector, same cable, same 3.5 kW, same protections — and on both, all of those protections sit inside the handle rather than in a plastic box halfway down the cable.

Both go up together. Join the waitlist at nytrotec.com and you'll hear first.

You have only ever seen a shape. Here it is.
Atom 3 — a portable EV charger with nothing in the middle of the cable. No control box, no plastic lump, nothing to carry separately or put down on hot tarmac while you plug in. The circuit that negotiates with your car and the protections that watch for trouble all sit inside the handle.
Three and a half kilowatts. Atom 3 Pro is the same charger with a display, so you can set the current and a timer.
Moving all of that into a handle isn't a design problem, it's a manufacturing one — new tooling, a new thermal path, and a factory willing to build for a product that doesn't exist yet. We had the factory first. That's the only reason this exists.

One light left on at the end of a very long day.
That's the whole product in one frame. There is no second piece — no control box halfway down the cable, nothing extra to carry, nothing to set down on hot tarmac while you plug in.
The electronics that normally live in that plastic lump — the circuit that negotiates with your car, the leakage detection, the temperature sensor, the voltage watch — all of it sits inside the handle instead. That's the entire idea, and it's the reason this took as long as it did.

We spent a day photographing a portable EV charger we're not ready to show you yet.
One lamp, a black backdrop, and a product that stays a silhouette. Most of what we shot isn't in this video — the frames that give it away are staying on the hard drive a little longer.
What we can tell you is the part you can already see: there's no control box in the middle of the cable. The safety electronics that normally live in that plastic lump sit inside the handle instead. That's the whole idea, and it's the reason this took as long as it did.

This is a real 'portable' EV charger falling off our car boot.

Nothing was harmed except our patience with the plastic box sitting in the middle of the cable. That box is the reason a "portable" charger needs its own bag. It's the reason the cable never coils properly. And it's the reason a charger that falls is a charger you worry about.

We spent a lot of time getting rid of it. Every protection that used to live in that box now lives inside the handle — the same four safeguards, in a lighter shape.

Something is launching this month.

Every portable EV charger sold in India has a plastic box sitting in the middle of the cable. It's there because that's where the safety electronics have always gone.

We moved them into the handle instead. Nothing removed — relocated to where it should have been all along.

We removed the control box from our EV charger. Here's what we didn't remove.

Every portable charger sold in India has a plastic box sitting in the middle of the cable. It's the reason your charger lives in the boot instead of the glovebox. We got rid of it.

What we did not get rid of: the control pilot handshake, residual current detection, the plug temperature sensor, and the refusal to charge on an unearthed socket. All four moved into the handle.

Swipe through for the detail.
