2. Exhaust System(Fully custom build) - One of the most important and relatable features of cars that resonates with human body is breathing. Just like human, cars inhale and exhale air. Hence, the 2nd and foremost important mod for your vehicle, after an intake,has to exhaust.
Engine combustion gases gets out from the exhaust manifold. The company or factory or OE manifold are restricted and has too much back pressure. Please note, removing the silencer or muffler or endcan of your car is not a performance mod but simply something that sounds really really awesome. Having said that, we opted for a full exhaust system.
Torquometer’s swift has -
1. 4-2-1 headers
2. Increased mild steel piping (2inch diameter now)
3. HKS japan muffler.
But Hey, what is back pressure? What does a header mean? Why increase pipe size? How all this modification helps the engine? How much will it cost?
Back pressure - one of the most conflicted topics in history of automobile and the question is “DOES IT EXIST?”
Imagine your breathing. Inhale…exhale… easy right? But what if their are too many things that that restricts air from getting out of your body and some of it comes back due to so many things blocking it. That creates pressure for your body right?
Well, that is back pressure. Smaller pipe sizes, catalytic converter, resonators of your car block the flow exhaust hence creating a pressure in the flow. Therefor when building a full custom race exhaust, all of these are removed. Some say back pressure is a myth, some say it isn’t. With the examples we have given, we leave it up to you to decide.
Headers are basically independent exhaust ports for your engine. In OE exhaust manifold,all cylinders share one single gateway but when it comes to headers, each cylinder has there own pipe. In the picture a 4-2-1 header is shown. 4 different pipes for 4 different cylinder that gets merged into 2 pipes which further connects to a single down pipe creating a 4 x 2 x 1 pipe headers.
now installing a header, removing you catalytic convertor( which basically converts harmful gases to not so harmful ones) and putting a straight pipe exhaust for maximum. this setup is called Straight Pipe Exhaust as the header goes in straight pipe through the end to the muffler.
Another very Popular and Efficient exhaust type is a Catback Exhaust. Catback can be broken into CAT - catalytic converter and back is behind which means behind the catalytic converter. therefore, a catback exhaust is a kind where you change all the exhaust parts into a performance parts after the catalytic converter. from engine till CAT, everything OE but behind or back of the cat, unrestricted flow of exhaust gas, hence being called catback exhaust.
you can decide between catback and straight pipe exhaust for best output. There is also Axle back exhuast but that mostly increases sound of the exhaust, makes cars cooler than faster.
