BMW 520d N47 – Timing Chain Replacement
This 520d came in with a rattle on cold start, and on inspection the timing chain was found to be badly stretched.

🔧 Comline timing chain kit fitted – 4 year warranty
🔧 New rocker cover gasket
🔧 New injector seals
🔧 Injector seats cut
🔧 New coolant fl**ge under the intake manifold – a very common issue on N47 & N57 engines
🔧 Fresh engine oil & oil filter
🔧 Everything correctly timed and torqued to Bmw specification

We would normally also replace the oil filter housing gaskets/seals while carrying out this work, as they are prone to leak oil on these engines. However, with this vehicle we were working within the customer’s budget, so this was left for the time being.

Decided it was time to give the garage a bit of a refresh!

Got the walls painted and the workshop floor painted, and it’s made a massive difference to the place already.

Next up is getting the waiting area finished off with new laminate flooring, along with a few other bits and pieces to tidy the place up and give it a much cleaner look.

Still plenty to do, but it’s coming together nicely and I’m looking forward to getting it all finished.

🔧 Skoda Superb PD115 – Head Replacement & Full Refresh 🔧

Another one in the workshop, this time a PD115 Superb that came in needing a head replacement and a good bit of work carried out.

The job included:

🔹 Replacement cylinder head fitted
🔹 New head gasket – customer opted not to have the head skimmed
🔹 Upgraded 12.9 grade head bolts fitted
🔹 New timing belt & water pump
🔹 New Thermostat
🔹 New intake manifold gasket
🔹 New exhaust manifold gasket
🔹 New rocker cover gasket
🔹 New injector seals
🔹 Injector backlash set
🔹 Boosting issues diagnosed and rectified
🔹 N75 simplification carried out
🔹 Pd150 AL injectors fitted
🔹 2 front suspension arms replaced
🔹 Rear springs replaced
🔹 Exhaust tip welded on and an additional exhaust hanger made

The car also had a pd130 turbo fitted by the customer, so once everything was mechanically sorted, The car was tuned to suit the pd130 turbo and AL injectors.

A fair bit involved in this one, but the end result is a properly sorted PD115 with the supporting hardware and calibration to match. 💪

🔧 Another tricky one sorted 🔧

This Renault Megane 1.5 Dci came into the workshop with a persistent fuel system issue that had everyone scratching their heads.

The vehicle was drawing air into the fuel system, making it an extremely time-consuming fault to diagnose. After carrying out extensive testing and methodically eliminating possible causes, the issue was finally traced and repaired.

Sometimes the hardest jobs aren’t replacing parts – they’re finding the actual fault.

✅ Fuel system diagnosed
✅ Air ingress issue located and repaired
✅ Fuel system tested
✅ Vehicle running as it should again

This one was an absolute nightmare to track down, but that’s what proper diagnostics are all about. We don’t just throw parts at a problem—we take the time to find the root cause.

The gearbox was fully serviced using a genuine ZF service kit, ensuring correct filtration and the use of high-quality OEM components throughout.

✅ Genuine ZF service kit fitted
✅ Genuine ZF Lifeguard transmission fluid used
✅ Correct oil filling procedure carried out at the specified temperature
✅ Oil balancing procedure completed
✅ Gearbox adaptations reset
✅ Road tested and operation checked

Regular servicing of the ZF 6HP gearbox can help improve shift quality, prolong gearbox life and reduce the risk of expensive repairs. Despite being labelled “sealed for life”, these gearboxes benefit greatly from routine maintenance.

Another fault diagnosed and repaired 🔧

This Mk6 Golf came in with the ABS, traction control and ESP lights illuminated.

A quick road test and live data showed the left rear ABS wheel speed sensor signal dropping in and out while driving. At first glance it looked like a faulty sensor, but further inspection found the magnetic ABS ring in the wheel bearing had failed.

The damaged ABS ring had also worn the sensor, so the repair included:
✅ New rear wheel bearing (with integrated ABS ring)
✅ New ABS wheel speed sensor
✅ Fault codes cleared and road tested
✅ Live data confirmed all wheel speed signals were now reading correctly

It’s a good example of why proper diagnostics are so important. Simply replacing the sensor wouldn’t have fixed this one.
