Topping Up Coolant Every Week But Can't See a Leak? Where is it Going?
This is a classic headache for many drivers. The coolant level keeps dropping, but you can't find a puddle under the truck. Before you blame the radiator, know this: the leak might be internal. The two most likely culprits are:
A small head gasket leak: It's leaking slowly into the cylinder, where it gets burned off as that "sweet white smoke" we talked about. You might not even see the smoke, but you'll smell it.
A leaking oil cooler: Many diesels have an oil cooler that uses coolant. If the seals inside fail, coolant can leak directly into the engine oil.
Tips by experts: Check your engine oil. If it looks like a milky, chocolatey brown sludge on the dipstick, that's coolant and oil mixing. Shut the engine down immediately to prevent bearing damage.
Is your coolant vanishing? Don't just keep filling it! Let us perform a pressure test and oil analysis to find the exact leak. Call for a diagnosis
