Nearly two years after Jaguar unveiled the Type 00 concept during Miami Art Week, the production ready Type 01 made its debut in New York last week.

An all electric, four door luxury GT, the Type 01 sets the tone for Jaguar’s bold new direction.

It’s certainly turning heads and getting people talking, from its ‘impossible’ panel to the headline grabbing performance figures. Up to 1,030 PS, 1,365 Nm of torque and 0-62 in just 3.2 seconds, alongside an anticipated WLTP range of up to 450 miles.

What makes a new car exciting?

With so many new cars focusing on affordability, technology and practicality, it’s refreshing to see some manufacturers putting personality back into their designs.

From the Hyundai IONIQ 6 N and CUPRA Raval to the Renault Twingo and Fiat Grande Panda, these cars are all taking different approaches to creating character, not to mention the iconic wicker baguette holder in the Renault 5 E-Tech 🥖

But what makes a car desirable? Is it the proportions, the details, the driving experience, the technology, or simply the feeling it gives you?

Are we seeing new cars with genuine personality, or are these just clever design exercises?

What’s not to like?

Affordable, attractive, efficient, brand new cars packed with technology.

But what is really driving people to buy them? Is it the design and character, or the combination of competitive pricing, finance deals and technology?

And what about the interiors? Are we heading towards increasingly similar cabins, with empty dashboards, huge screens and fewer physical controls, where individuality and character are being lost?

Chinese ownership is also influencing the design direction of established marques such as MG and Lotus. From BYD, OMODA and JAECOO to Leapmotor and XPeng, there’s plenty to discuss.

Are these brands creating designs people genuinely want, or are the numbers and technology simply too good to ignore?

It’s also pretty incredible to see how far LMP2 prototype design has evolved over the years. The progression in design, aerodynamics and performance is incredible.

2000 vs 2026

Nearly three decades after the original Audi A2 arrived, the A2 is back! Reinvented for the electric era with the all new A2 e-tron. The original was well known for its lightweight aluminium construction and obsession with aerodynamics. While the Aluminium space frame is gone, the new A2 e-tron continues that philosophy with a drag coefficient of just 0.24 (0.4 less than the original), optimised wheels, an aerodynamic underbody, an active inlet shutter and more.

There’s something satisfying about seeing the first surfaces emerge 👀

Every CNC toolpath removes just enough clay to reveal the design beneath, creating the starting point for our clay modellers to refine every curve, line and detail by hand.

Our Stratasys F370 and F770 FDM printers have been hard at work supporting a range of ongoing projects. From concept prototypes to bespoke clay supports, they help us turn ideas into reality with speed, precision and reliability.

With one of the largest build volumes in the Stratasys range, the F770 gives us the flexibility to produce large scale parts in a single print or maximise efficiency by printing multiple components at once!

The final results.

From the initial scan to a fully textured 3D model. With realistic colour and geometry, the model can be explored on a tablet, rotated, sketched over in Procreate, viewed in augmented reality or used as the foundation for the next stages of development.

This workflow is particularly valuable during product development, making it easy to share concepts with clients who can’t be there in person. Whether for design reviews, feedback or presentations, it brings the model to them.
