As we head into the summer months and longer daylight hours, there is an increasing number of bikes on the road and inevitably those seeking to ride off road illegally. Bon Accord MCC takes it obligations to our land partners seriously and will work with them to protect the land we use. Our message to riders and any actions we'd take are noted below.
Illegal Off Road Riding in Scotland
Illegal off road riding is one of the biggest threats to organised off road motorcycle sport in Scotland. The law is clear: riding or driving any motorised vehicle off road is strictly illegal unless you have the landowner’s permission. This applies everywhere, no matter how remote the area may seem.
How BAMCC Helps Protect the Future of the Sport
BAMCC is committed to running safe, legal events that follow the Road Traffic Act and respect the land we use. We work closely with Forest and Land Scotland, private landowners, and Police Scotland to make sure we can continue offering high quality off road events for years to come.
Illegal riding damages these relationships and puts the future of our events at risk. When riders ignore the law, it affects everyone who enjoys the sport responsibly.
What We Can Do on the Ground
To help protect the areas we use in Aberdeenshire, BAMCC will:
• In conjunction with landowners, carry out regular patrols with clearly identifiable club members wearing BAMCC hi vis vests
• Use cameras to record video and photos of illegal riding where necessary
• Share information with landowners and the police when incidents occur
• Support any enforcement action taken by the authorities
Consequences for Illegal Riding
If we receive reports of illegal riding from the police, landowners, FLS, or from our own patrols, anyone identified will be banned from future BAMCC events.
If a club member is proven to have been riding illegally, they will face a long-term ban from the club, and we will ensure that any competition licence they hold is withdrawn.
BAMCC is committed to responsible riding and protecting access for everyone. We will work with and support Forest and Land Scotland and Police Scotland in the prosecution of any illegal off road riding.
