The best feedback doesn’t (and shouldn’t) wait for the quarterly or annual reviews. ✨

In-the-moment feedback builds trust, fixes problems early and shows your people you’re invested in their growth and not just their output.

It’s one of the simplest culture shifts I think leaders and managers can make. And one of the most powerful - passing great feedback straight away, not sitting on it.

What is a people strategy and why does it belong in your business plan? 🙌

It’s the part of your plan that answers who delivers the growth you’ve forecast…

Three questions I am asking clients before the end of the year or the next financial year:

1. What roles does the plan actually need — not the ones you have?
2. Who’s ready, and who needs developing?how are we unlocking progression?
3. What breaks, doesn’t work well or reduces a service if a key person leaves?

Answer those and hiring stops being a reaction. It becomes a decision. Viola!

📍Claire Nash Solicitors’ beautifully upgraded meeting room filled with artwork from a local dementia charity their team supports. Made by the people the charity helps. A cause close to my client’s heart and honestly, stunning work. 🎨

🎤 Then a guest talk from Tamzin on neurodiversity - 5 brilliant, practical steps to make team meetings genuinely inclusive. Simple changes, huge impact. Taking these with me.

🍸 Topped off with a lunch meeting with Jane - strategy, future plans, a birthday and a lot of laughter. (The best kind of meeting.)

Values in action. Inclusion done properly. People at the centre of it all.

What a blast at a client’s Annual Conference! My favourite quote so far is ‘Risk-taking has to be part of your agenda.’

What strikes me every time I’m in a room like this with different businesses, different sectors, different sizes: everyone is carrying the same weight. Business rates. NI contributions. Rising Living Wage. The pressure is universal.

But what made my HR heart sing today was this.
A People Rule in a family business over 100 years old: We don’t say ‘we’ve tried that before.’

In this climate, People Strategy and innovation isn’t optional and creating a culture where risk is encouraged is one of the most commercially important things a business can do.

And now I’m going to sleep and hibernate for three weeks! 😂🫠
