📌 Important details about the 2.5T tacho legislation: 📌

📅 Effective Date: 1 July 2026.

🚚 Scope: Vehicles over 2.5t up to 3.5t (including light vans).

💥 Trigger: Mandatory for international freight transport (hire or reward).

💥 Domestic Use: If the vehicle operates only within the UK, the tachograph requirement does not apply.

Exceptions:

Own-account transport (carrying own goods).

Driving is not the driver's main activity.

Equipment: Smart tachograph 2 (recording border crossings and GPS locations).

New Tachograph & Drivers’ Hours Rules for 2.5t–3.5t Vehicles

🔥 What Changes on 1 July 2026?

LCVs over 2.5t (up to 3.5t) used for international freight or cabotage must:

Fit a Smart Tachograph 2 (G2V2)

Follow EU drivers’ hours rules (same as HGVs)

Ensure drivers hold a driver card

Record all driving, work, breaks, and rest

Comply with posting-of-driver rules where applicable
