Prometeon Tyre Group has commissioned an automated inspection system designed to identify and classify tyre anomalies during final quality-control checks at its manufacturing operations. This project, jointly developed with Rockwell Automation and Italian inspection specialist Tekna Automazione e Controllo, uses image-processing technology to automate checks on Prometeon truck and bus radials.

India-based Mahansaria Tyres Private Limited (MTPL), the company behind the Ascenso Tyres brand, is expanding both its market presence and product portfolio. At the recent Steinexpo exhibition, the company presented an E4-designated earthmover tyre with extra-deep tread for severe service in size 24.00R35 for the first time, extending its radial OTR range into the giant tyre segment. Ascenso has since also added a 27.00R49 size to the range.

Continental has announced the sale of its ‘mycar Tyre & Auto’ retail business in Australia to Chinese automotive service platform Tuhu Car Inc. The deal is based on an enterprise value of AU$403 million (£214 million, US$283 million). All of mycar Tyre & Auto’s more than 1,600 employees and 279 company-run retail outlets are part of the transaction, which is subject to regulatory approvals.

Oak Group enters the closing months of 2026 as a substantially larger business than it was a year ago. A major acquisition, two warehouse projects and continued investment in its customer-facing technology have widened the tyre wholesaler’s geographic reach and increased the scale of the operation behind it. The common thread has been distribution: putting more stock closer to customers while giving the trade a quicker route to finding, ordering and paying for it.

Linglong Tire has issued a statement confirming its Board of Directors’ approval to build a PCR tyre factory in Egypt. The company says the proposed site in Borg El Arab is approximately 45 kilometres or 28 miles south of Alexandria.

Yokohama Rubber has joined Itochu Corporation’s Project Tree initiative for sustainable natural-rubber sourcing and has begun procuring rubber through the programme. An early application of its engagement is the supply of project-supported tyres for commercial vehicles operated by Japanese convenience store franchise chain FamilyMart. Yokohama Rubber delivered the first tyres on 25 September 2026.

SMMT figures showing the UK used car market grew by 2.2 per cent in 2025 to reach 7.8 million transactions. Tyre retailer Blackcircles has addressed the question of how thoroughly buyers are inspecting prospective purchases, evaluating consumer diligence and market risk, with a new study. The company surveyed UK adults who have purchased a second-hand car about their pre-purchase checks, buying confidence, retail channels, and subsequent unexpected repair bills.
