Having confidence with EVERY part of your driving....

Everywhere there are learners taking their driving tests in their own car.

It's either because....
*Family/friends have voiced how good they are.
*They're certain they're good enough.
*Their Instructor has said no to using their car.

The last one above is causing alot of concern. The reason we sometimes say you can't use our car for the driving test ISN'T because you can't drive, it's because we believe that there are still certain things that you need to improve on to be able to be & stay a safer driver.

We don't want to refuse our car, we just want safer drivers on the roads.

So no, we're not refusing the use of our car just for the fun of it, we're risk assessing your future driving.

UNDUE HESITATION....
COULD of gone or SHOULD of gone?

This happens when you delay taking action when it is completely safe to go & is very common when learning to drive.

Examples:
*At roundabouts - Slowing down too much or even stopping when there's no approaching traffic on your right.
*Junctions - Not moving out when there's a safe large gap in moving traffic.

How to fix the above examples 🤔
Plan ahead/Observe early✅️
Regular practice✅️
It's ok to wait if you feel it's unsafe but don't be over cautious✅️

3 STAGES TO BRAKING....

1st: Gentle pressure to signal (warn others).
2nd: Progressively brake to slow down.
3rd: Release gently to get a smoother stop.

REMEMBER....Early warning & early braking is safer than late warning & late braking 👌

When the crossroad section is small, you should be thinking ahead about where you would wait if the lights are on red, but why 🤔

There is usually a solid white line to help you stop in the correct place BUT what I want you to really question is....Could a large vehicle get around you safely if they were coming from a certain direction?

PASS PLUS....

This 👆 is for after you've passed your driving test & feel you haven't already covered these things 👇 in your lessons:

Town, all-weather, rural, night/dark, dual carriageways, motorways.

Is it worth it?
*You MAY get a discount on your insurance though not all insurers participate in this.
*There is no pass or fail, once completed, a report form will be filled in & you'll receive a certificate.

My learners (like some others) already cover all of the these skills BEFORE passing their test.

*Town✅️
*All-weather✅️ we have safe, controlled, fun snow lessons where learners can get to understand how the car reacts/handles differently.
*Rural✅️ open & narrow bendy lanes.
*Night/dark✅️ only when learners can swap their light hrs with a learner who already has lessons when it dark.
*Dual carriageways✅️ we have lots of them around here & some are 70mph.
*Motorways✅️ I'm a big believer of learners having these lessons BEFORE passing their test. It gives more confidence & understanding, but I'll only suggest when the learner is already at a good, safe standard with everything else.

The rule for learners driving on motorways came in on June 4th 2018. They must be accompanied by an approved driving instructor & in a car fitted with dual controls 👌

Struggle with roundabouts 🤔

If you have a good understanding of roundabouts but still struggle with them, it could all be down to your approach speed.

❌️ Too fast = No time to look sooner & plan = likelihood of stopping when clear & safe to carry on & enter the roundabout ❌️

✅️ Slower = Able to look sooner & plan = knowing if it's clear & safe to carry on & enter the roundabout by selecting correct gear ✅️

CAN YOU SKIP GEARS IN YOUR DRIVING TEST 🤔

✅️ Yes

Skipping gears in a manual is safe & efficient so long as you match your speed to the desired gear.

Upshifting example = 3rd to 5th.
Downshifting example = 5th to 3rd.

Upshifting you'll need to accelerate.
Downshifting you'll need to brake.
