The Steering Wheel.

Nervous learners often grip the steering wheel like it owes them money! ๐Ÿ’ธ ๐Ÿ˜„

It's completely normal. When you're concentrating hard, it's easy to tense up without even noticing. The trouble is, the tighter you grip the wheel, the tenser your arms become, and the less smooth your steering will be.

Instead, try relaxing your shoulders and holding the wheel firmly but comfortably. Driving should feel controlledโ€”not like an arm workout.

If steering feels awkward right now, don't worry. Almost every learner starts by thinking about every movement of their hands. Then one day, without even realising it, you're steering around bends, roundabouts and corners naturally, without giving it a second thought.

That's what practice does.

Be patient with yourself, trust the process, and rememberโ€”confidence behind the wheel isn't something you're born with, it's something you build.

A little message for parents/supervising drivers ๐Ÿ‘ช

When you're out practising, try not to tell your son or daughter exactly when to go.

Instead, ask questions -

โžก๏ธ "What can you see?"
โžก๏ธ "Is anyone approaching?"
โžก๏ธ "Would pulling out now affect that car?"

Helping them think for themselves builds confidence much quicker than telling.

Good observation gives them more time, and more time leads to better decisions.

That's exactly how we develop safe, independent drivers.

๐Ÿš— Junction Tip of the Week

Before moving off at a junction, ask yourself one simple question:

"If I pull out now, will I make another driver change speed or direction?"

If the answer is yes... Wait.

It's a simple way of judging whether it's actually safe to emerge without trying to guess exact gaps.

Learning to judge traffic takes practice, but this question can make your decision much easier.

Have you ever found judging gaps difficult? You're definitely not alone!

A Lesson Win ๐Ÿ†

One of the best moments on a lesson is when a pupil says..."I saw that before you pointed it out!"

That's when I know they're starting to think like an independent driver.

It's not luckโ€”it's a skill that gets better with practice.

Driving isn't just about controlling the car, it's about reading the road and planning ahead.

That's exactly what we work on during lessons, helping you become a safe and confident driverโ€”not just someone who can pass a test.

If you're thinking about learning to drive, send me a message. I'd be happy to help.

One question I ask my pupils a lot is:

"What can you see developing?"

Maybe it's:

- Traffic building up ahead.
- A parked car forcing traffic into your lane.
- Brake lights appearing in the distance.

Once you spot the problem, finding the solution becomes much easier.

That's how confidence grows.

Driving isn't just about controlling the car. It's about reading the road and planning ahead.

That's exactly what we work on during lessons, helping you become a safe and confident driverโ€”not just someone who can pass a test.

Good Drivers Think Ahead

One thing I always tell my pupils...

Driving isn't about waiting for something to go wrongโ€”it's about spotting what could go wrong before it happens.

For example:
๐Ÿš— A car waiting at a side road.
๐Ÿšถ Someone walking towards a pedestrian crossing. ๐ŸšŒ A bus stopped ahead.

Each one is a clue that you might need to slow down, change position or be ready to stop.

The earlier you spot it, the easier driving becomes.

What's something you've noticed on the road that caught you by surprise?
