It’s that time of year again. If you are at a loose end this weekend and enjoy seeing vintage agricultural machinery at work then this weekend is the Casterton Vintage Working Event just outside Stamford. An excellent event showcasing some of very best vintage machinery from around the UK.

A number of years ago I was lucky enough to meet a gentleman who had an extraordinary collection of classic vehicles. Unfortunately, his collection was subjected to an arson attack that destroyed a large proportion of his beloved cars and commercial vehicles. Sadly, I have recently learnt of his passing and that some of his collection will be auctioned at Cheffins Machinery and Vintage Sales next month. He was certainly a one of a kind and I will fondly remember the many cups of tea and chats in his ‘Wendy house’, his kindness and generosity.

The pictures here just show the extent and breadth of his collection but also the aftermath of the fire.

Lovely to see the work carried out by Julian Shoolheifer Limited on this beautiful Forest Rover. A real treat to see one under power and not stuffed in a museum.

We’ve had a failure in the long term exposure test of the three types of handbrake gaiter currently on the market. Can you guess which one?

Background.

We decided to hang 3 versions of the Land Rover Series handbrake gaiter from 3 manufacturers/ suppliers. They have been hanging outside our workshop for just over 12 months and have endured the cold and the heat.
