A quick note to say the fishery remains open. July fishing for the trout has been very tough, though a few anglers have been successful during recent cloudy, slightly cooler days. The clip below shows a sample of roach fry activity around marginal weeds. Just as I hit record up popped a brownie and engulfed some pin fry!
A good number of carp are active on Oak pool and they will take dries and nymphs. Steve Yeomans has enjoyed success with some gorgeous commons and mirrors using beetles and damsel nymphs recently.

Trout fishing has been challenging with the heat, your best opportunity being mornings, particularly cooler ones like today. Small flies are the way to go. Fortunately Oak pool's carp population are more active during hot afternoons and provide some action for anglers. Please note the carp fishing is fly only.
As you can see, the fish and fishery are looking fabulous!🙂

Plenty of fish moving most days currently. They seem largely focused on small stuff, buzzers and pin fry. Still numbers of mayfly showing PM while damsel nymphs are on their march to bank-side reed beds where trout lie in wait!

More fun to nymphs and dry flies on the lakes this week!🙂

It's been a good weekend at Loynton Trout Fisheries. Simon returns a nice 3lb blue he caught on his 1st day fly fishing. Well done to everyone, great to meet you all!🙂

We still get asked what blue trout are. well this one is a fairly extreme example. Absolutely stunning!
A nymphing approach has been most productive recently with small black buzzers, hares ear and mayfly nymphs producing consistently. Mid afternoon seems to be favoured by the few mayfly we've seen hatch off the lakes so far. A dry on the dropper and nymph as point fly is not a bad idea when warmer conditions arrive next week (allegedly).😉

Some nice dry fly and nymph fishing at the moment. Buzzers in black and red, black dries on top. There are masses of hawthorn fly this year!🙂

Late March has seen lots of bent rods. Fish are coming to most tactics depending on conditions. It's even possible to take a fish or two off the top should you fancy a challenge. Try a black shuttlecock!😉

Anglers seem to be picking up fish with the usual suspects fly wise recently. Mini lures, bloodworm, various sparse nymphs. Do stay on the move! Finally don't do what so many visiting anglers do, by ignoring Oak pool!😉
