The UK is on fire. But apart from the “genius” move to ban disposable BBQs what else can we do?
The tipping point I have been banging on about seems to be here… Wildfires in the West Midlands and five heatwaves this summer. And what happened on Friday?? The government launched a consultation on cutting EV sales targets. From 80% by 2030 down to as low as 50%. Awesome. Not.
A formal consultation. On the same day Britain recorded its fifth hottest day ever.
EV sales are up 29% this year. The technology is just better and British drivers are switching.
And the response to that momentum is to consider rowing back on the targets designed to accelerate it??? WTAF.
The Energy and Climate Intelligence Unit said that getting more EVs on the road is one of the single most important policies for cutting UK emissions.
👉It protects British drivers from volatile oil prices.
👉It saves money.
👉It reduces dependence on the same fossil fuels that are warming the planet that is currently on fire.
I’m not telling you who to vote for or what to think about Andy Burnham’s politics. I’m just an average dad who drives an EV, watches the news, and finds the timing of this one very odd. Mind boggling stupidity is another way of looking at it?
