Shy is not a word I would use to describe this student but she definitely was NOT having her photo taken!

Congratulations 🎉🍾🥂🥳 to Elsie Frostick who passed her driving test on Monday 20 July 2026 in Cambridge with only 3 driving faults.

I met Elsie and her family about 7 years ago and I was touched when her Mum contacted me and told me that Elsie would like to have me as her driving instructor!

Elsie has been a great student and we have had a blast! Her sense of humour and non stop talking have made every lesson so enjoyable. There was only one lesson where I felt sad…..poor squirrel! 🐿️

Sitting in the back of the car whilst your student is taking their test is never easy! You have to watch as things start to unfold in front of you and when your student does a reverse bay park that ends up in a bush, you start to fear the worst!

Ella went into her driving test full of confidence. I don’t think failing was an option! We had a couple of incidents whilst she was learning to drive that made me smile. Ask her about the wall on her driveway next time you see her!

Congratulations 🥳🍾🥂🎉 to George Lee who passed his driving test in Bury St Edmunds on Monday 22 June 2026 with only 4 driving faults.

The majority of the hard work in teaching George to drive had already been done by his Mum, Sophie Lee. George was another prime example of how important it is to get out and gain experience, if you are able to do so, with a family member or friend.

I only had to get rid of a couple of bad habits and teach George the test manoeuvres. There was also the small matter of some non-existent observations! We got there in the end!

CORE TEST SKILL AND MANOEUVRES
Lane Discipline: A Small Skill That Makes a Big Difference

Good lane discipline keeps traffic flowing smoothly and makes every journey safer - especially on roundabouts, dual carriageways, and busy multi‑lane roads. When you hold a steady, predictable position, other drivers instantly understand what you intend to do.

Poor lane discipline can cause hesitation, last‑minute swerves, and confusion for the drivers around you. That’s when mistakes and near‑misses happen.

Strong lane discipline starts with early planning:
1. Look well ahead and read signs in good time
2. Use road markings to choose the correct lane early
3. Avoid drifting or last second lane changes

Before moving lanes, always use mirror → signal → manoeuvre and only change your position when it is safe to do so. Checking your blind spot just before you move over into another lane is important.

Clear, confident lane positioning shows awareness, forward planning, and control - exactly what the examiners are looking for on your test day!

Following Distance

Maintaining a safe following distance gives you more time to react to hazards and shows good awareness of what’s happening ahead. Driving too close reduces your ability to stop safely if traffic suddenly slows.

Use the two-second rule in dry conditions and increase this gap when the road is wet, icy, or busy. This simple habit greatly reduces the risk of collisions and helps create smoother journeys.

⭐ The Core Rule: The 2‑Second Rule

This is the standard safe‑following guideline in the UK for dry, clear conditions.
🚗 Pick a fixed point ahead (a sign, tree, lamp post).
🚗 When the vehicle in front passes it, say to yourself:
“Only a fool breaks the two‑second rule.”
🚗 If you reach the fixed point before you finish saying it, you’re too close!

Why it works
🚗 It adjusts automatically with speed.
🚗 It’s based on time, not metres, so it works whether you are travelling at 20 mph or 70 mph.

Congratulations 🥳🍾🥂🎉 to Jacob Shepherd who made it a ‘hat trick’ of first time passes in the last 5 days for MRW Driving!

Jacob passed his test at Brookmount Court in Cambridge on Monday 18 May with only 3 driving faults.

Like many students taking their driving test, the hardest part for Jacob was getting over his anxiety and nerves.

You have been a model student during your lessons. Now it is time to start believing in your own ability. Stay safe on the roads, keep learning every time you get behind the wheel and enjoy your new found freedom and independence!

Congratulations 🥳🍾🥂🎉 to Ethan Watters who passed his driving test in Cambridge on Thursday 14 May 2026 with a first time pass and only 2 driving faults!

Anyone who knows Ethan, ask him about his driving test the next time you see him! I don’t want to embarrass him too much but I sat in the back of the car for the test. I saw parts of Cambridge that I have never seen before (oops, wrong way!) and I had a full tour of the Histon roundabout (2 tours of it actually! Oops, wrong way again!)

Ethan, you have been an absolute pleasure to teach as a student. You always listened well to the feedback that you were given. Stay safe on the road, keep learning every time you get behind the wheel and enjoy your new found independence and freedom.
