🚨 £49 SAVED. 20 DAYS AT BMW. 🚨
Let that sink in.
Another day, another example of why cheapest doesn't always mean cheapest.
I was contacted by a customer after a company based in Crawley, West Sussex attempted to install a Ghost Immobiliser into their 2025 BMW X3 M50.
The result?
❌ The Ghost wasn't successfully installed
❌ The vehicle was left with multiple warnings and errors
❌ The rear camera stopped working
❌ CAN bus wiring had been damaged
❌ A coax cable carrying the rear camera video signal had been cut
The customer was then told the Ghost was faulty, they didn't have a spare unit, and that the car needed to go to BMW because their diagnostic equipment couldn't fully diagnose the new vehicle.
So that's exactly what happened.
BMW had the car for 20 DAYS.
BMW subsequently had to repair the damaged CAN bus wiring and replace the cut coax cable.
And today, I attended the vehicle.
I installed a Ghost Pro Immobiliser correctly and, unfortunately, also had to spend time putting right the aftermath of the previous installation.
The wiring had been left in a mess.
There were wires poorly taped together, the wiring hadn't been properly loomed back into position, and there were missing panel/trim clips.
📸 I documented what I found and showed the customer.
I then took the time to tidy everything properly and return the vehicle to a clean, factory-looking finish.
That's the difference between fitting a product and installing it properly.

💷 And here's the part that really matters.
The installer advertises Ghost installations at £450.
The RRP is £499.
So the customer potentially saved £49 by choosing the cheaper option.
That £49 saving resulted in:
➡️ A failed installation
➡️ Warning lights and errors
➡️ A non-functioning rear camera
➡️ Damaged vehicle wiring
➡️ A cut camera cable
➡️ A trip to BMW
➡️ 20 DAYS without the vehicle
➡️ More hassle, inconvenience and potentially significant additional cost
Was £49 really worth saving?
This is something we regularly see within the industry.
Companies competing on price, advertising nationwide, and offering installations cheaper than the recommended retail price — while installers who take the time to do things properly are expected to compete with that.
I'm not interested in being the cheapest.
I'm interested in doing the job properly.
I would much rather spend the extra time making sure the installation is right, the vehicle is treated with respect, the wiring is properly finished and the car leaves looking like it did before I touched it.
Because when you're working on a brand-new BMW or even a 20year old BMW, there is absolutely no excuse for poor workmanship.

🛠️ The installation is just as important as the product.
🔎 Do your research before choosing your installer.
Don't simply Google "Ghost Immobiliser near me", pick the cheapest price and assume they're all the same.
They're not.
Look at their reviews.
Look at their reputation.
Ask how experienced they are with the product they are installing.
Because £50 cheaper can very quickly become very expensive.
Another poor installation rectified.
Another customer who now knows exactly why you get what you pay for.
