Arfur's World

Arfur's World Arfur's World is all about a Mercedes Vario van, it's transformation into a motorhome and the adventures and travel that ensue! Vive Le Tour de Arfur!!

Arfur, named due to his number plate, is about to undergo some change in his life. Having been used as a mobile exhibition unit from being built in 2004, he's just been bought by a new owner with the aim of being converted into a motorhome and following the Tour de France in 2013. Here goes nothing ...

If you're in need of a large van MoT station, and in reach of Stansted airport, T R Autos are the people you need πŸ‘πŸ»

Out and about with the boys for a couple nights and a bit of fishing. Van runs a dream but looks like the tacho has killed another starter battery 😭

Finally on the ferry and heading back to Dover. Had noticed during the day that the bikes seems to be rattling a bit more than usual, and when on the ferry I noticed I'd lost a bolt from the support arm, which had evidently been bouncing against the side of the van 😳 it was a nyloc nut, so shouldn't have come loose.
Luckily (like VERY luckily!) I found a spare nut, washers and bolt in the glove box, so was able to fix it. New longer bolts cross drilled for R clips coming up, I think.

Day 2 and after a couple of failed attempts to do something fun, we just ended up driving. 2 and bit full tanks of diesel, quite a few stretches of roadworks and accidents and we're still (just) in Germany πŸ˜†

Today will be the beach in Belgium and a ferry back to the UK.

The 1st evening of "Operation bring the family and Arfur home from southern Poland" can be summed up by the following:
"I drove at the sun, until the sun hit the floor,
And when it went dark, I drove on some more".
Overnight a bit short of Berlin.
This update has been fuelled by Monster 😁

I'm not so lucky, as I fly back tonight to work πŸ˜†
2,737km so far or 1,710 miles in my money!

Following a week of chilling at Campingplatz - Bijela Uvala - Kroatien we left Poreč and headed down the coast then inland past Zagreb and onwards into Hungary. Currently parked for the night at A1 Stellplatz Balaton, which I highly recommend if you're in the area subject to 2 criteria - the owner is German and doesn't speak any English and neither do the bloody mosquitoes!

The story so far - Summer 2024
Left home, via Dover then through France, Belgium, Luxembourg and into Germany on Day 1.
Just made it into Austria on Day 2, by 200m. Stopped at a lovely castle where Richard the Lionheart was once imprisoned.
Crossed Austria at great tollroad expense and stopped at Lake Bled in Slovenia for the afternoon. Had a dip πŸŠβ€β™‚οΈ and then camped overnight at the wonderful Fairtyrale Sanctuary in Slovenia. https://www.pitchup.com/campsites/slovenia/slovenia/osrednjeslovenska/skofljica/fairytale-sanctuary/ on Day 3. We experienced the mother of all thunderstorms and rain, which was awesome, but unfortunately it showed a leak in Arfur from the bike rack. I'll need to fix it later.
Made it to our site near Porec in Croatia on
Day 4 and now relaxing for a week 😁
