One last send off for the SurfCat

Me and the lads made our way out to the local reefs for one final send off. We couldn’t have asked for a better day in October with clear blue skies and glassy conditions. Every bit of reef that we stopped at was filled with fish, mainly po***ck of a good stamp with a few nice ling to keep things interesting. As we started to loose the light I told the lads it was time to try the “cod spot” and within minutes my brother was in. Cod have sadly become a bit of a mythical creature in our waters so to see a specimen like this come up really put a smile on all our faces. The fishing we experienced on that day was spectacular and the fact that it was done on a four metre inflatable makes it even better.

The time has come for a new owner and I hope they can make many more happy memories on this boat.

As my ownership of this boat comes to an end another chapter begins, one that I will be able to share with you!

It’s really starting to feel like Autumn, my absolute favourite time of the year because there is such a diverse range of sea life around our shores.

I couldn’t think of a better way to experience this than a 3 day fishing and foraging adventure along the south coast of Cornwall exploring the estuaries and bays.

It has been a while since my last upload and that’s purely down to an incredible charter fishing season and as that ends a new chapter begins.

I hope this one was worth the wait.

When you fish an area for a while you start to notice patterns and certain conditions that can produce a special fish. Last night was the perfect example of this and me and my brother knew exactly what to do.

We got down to the river for last light and settled into the mark knowing it would take a while for the bite to pick up. The baits were simple, small thin strips of cuttlefish on a running ledger… not your typical big fish baits but it’s what has worked for us time and time again.

Just after midnight as the ebb was in full force we were in to a steady flow of bass between the 4-6lb mark, it was shaping up to be a very good session. It can be tempting to whack a big bait out at this stage but from past experiences this normally results in missed bites so we persisted.

Six hours in to the session my reel starts screaming and I know the fish that we’ve been waiting for has picked up my bait. After an adrenaline filled fight this colossal bass almost as wide as it is long is at my feet.

We are now entering the best time of year for targeting the big ones so get out there and enjoy it!

With strong winds and heavy rain forecast across Cornwall, heading up the estuary was just about the only sensible option today, it wasn’t exactly screaming bream conditions…

I got there for low water and baited the swim with ragworm on a simple running ledger rig and after four hours of a lot of rain the reel went screaming and I was on a nice Guilthead bream.

Possibly the best estuary fish to grace our shores… if you have the patience 😂

Let’s go fishing on the remote and rugged coastline of Cornwall!

This has to be one of the most amazing places to explore by boat and even when the fish aren’t biting the scenery never disappoints.

This is why you can’t beat sea fishing in Cornwall!

Putting one of the lads aboard Marlin onto a prime lure caught cod over the reefs in the morning and then shooting off for an after work shore session and catching one of the best looking and tasting fish in our seas, the couches bream.

All this in a balmy 28 degrees 😎

I’m lucky enough to own a few inflatable boats so I wanted to set myself a little challenge to catch a fish on each of them in one trip!

I think this video shows a nice comparison between the capabilities of different SIBs and how the sea conditions can affect them… this might be the first video I’ve ever made of me falling in 😅
