🔴 Does your breakdown cover include the caravan behind you?

Towing season is well underway and it is worth knowing exactly what your breakdown cover does and does not include when there is something attached to the back of your car.

Many standard breakdown policies cover the tow vehicle only. If the caravan or trailer itself develops a fault - a tyre blowout, a coupling failure, a wheel bearing going - the policy may not cover recovery of the outfit as a whole.

AutoAid personal-based membership includes cover for an attached caravan or small trailer as standard (check your exact caravan specs on the policy details). If you break down while towing, the recovery covers both the vehicle and whatever is hitched to it, to a destination of your choice.

If you are heading out with a caravan this summer and you have not checked what your current cover actually includes for the outfit, now is the right time to do it.

ℹ Breaking down is stressful enough without worrying about everyone else in the car.
If your breakdown happens more than a mile from home, AutoAid will recover you, your vehicle, and up to five passengers to any single UK destination of your choice.

That means the whole car, not just the driver. No one gets left behind, and no one has to sort their own way home.

It's the kind of cover that matters most when you're far from home with a car full of people.

Every summer there is one boot item that somehow becomes a permanent fixture.

A football. A picnic blanket. A bottle of water that has been there since May. A spare jumper. Something for the dog. Something that was meant to come out weeks ago.
Tell us the item that always seems to live there.

Half term doesn't mean quiet roads.

Myth: School's out for half term, so traffic drops and the roads calm down.

Fact: May half term coincided with the bank holiday Monday and is one of the most heavily used leisure travel periods of the year. Fewer school runs are more than replaced by family day trips, caravan departures, and journeys to the coast. The A30 into Cornwall, the M5 southbound, and routes into North Wales and the Lake District are reliably congested.

Is Premium Fuel Worth It for Everyday Drivers?

With fuel prices being what they are, it’s understandable that people start questioning what they’re putting in the tank. One of the most common things drivers wonder is whether premium petrol is actually worth the extra money.

The short answer is, for most people, probably not. But it does depend on the car.

Hire car, courtesy car, borrowed car - are you covered in any of them?

Hire cars do not always come with breakdown cover as a standard inclusion. The add-on at the rental desk often is optional and expensive.

Courtesy cars provided while your own vehicle is being serviced come with the garage's insurance, but not necessarily breakdown recovery.

A borrowed car from a family member has whatever cover the owner has on it - which may be vehicle-based, meaning you as a different driver are not covered.

These are three very common driving scenarios. In all three, a vehicle-based breakdown policy could give you nothing.

AutoAid personal-based cover works across all of them. The cover is attached to you as a driver. Any car you are legally driving is covered.

If you regularly find yourself in a car that is not your own, it is the one genuinely practical solution.

Life changes, and your AutoAid membership needs to keep up. The good news is that updating your details can be quick and easy - no phone calls needed for most enquiries.

Here's what you can change yourself through the member portal:
🚗 Changed your car? Update your main vehicle online.
🏠 Moved address? Notify us through the portal.
📧 New email or phone number? Update your contact details so we can reach you if you ever need assistance.

That last one matters more than people realise. If you break down and we can't reach you on the number we hold, it slows everything down.

Two minutes now could save a lot of stress later.
