✨ "Recovery is as much mental as it is physical"

After being shot in the spine while serving in Iraq, Jon faced challenges that went far beyond learning to walk again. Through patience, determination and years of rehabilitation, he gradually rebuilt his independence and adapted to life after injury.

Since then, Jon has represented Great Britain in para-ice hockey, competed at the Invictus Games and reached Everest Base Camp. His story is a reminder that recovery takes time, and that progress is often built through small steps, taken consistently over time 💙

⛷️🏂 Another couple of brilliant Snowsports Patient Activity Days in the books!

Together with Disability Snowsport UK (DSUK), this week we welcomed patients to the SnowDome in Tamworth and The Snow Centre in Hemel Hempstead for two fantastic days of learning new skills, building confidence, and having fun on the slopes.

From taking to the snow for the very first time to sharpening skills, it was incredible to see everyone challenging themselves and enjoying every moment ❄️

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us and made the days such a success.

“When I put it on, I felt like my world had started again.”

After a rugby injury left Neil with foot drop, everyday activities became more challenging and his confidence took a significant hit. His SAFO provides the support and stability he needs to help keep his foot in a better position when walking, reducing the risk of trips and helping him move with greater confidence. From coaching and teaching to competing internationally in para-badminton, Neil's SAFO has helped him stay active and continue doing the things he loves for more than 20 years.

Earlier this week we had a wonderful afternoon celebrating eight years of partnership with Relimb™ and our Osseointegration Service.

Our garden party reunion brought together patients, case managers, solicitors and clinical teams to reconnect, share experiences and celebrate the journeys made possible through osseointegration.

It was fantastic to see everyone come together, reflect on how far we’ve come. Thank you to everyone who joined us 💙

Not Success, But Purpose: Matthew's Journey Beyond Rugby.

A former rugby captain who had represented Zimbabwe at Under-19 level, Matthew's future looked very different after a serious accident left him with multiple injuries and drop foot.

As he recovered, he faced the loss of more than just his mobility. Rugby had been a huge part of his identity, and letting go of the sport he loved was one of the greatest challenges he had to overcome.

But Matthew's story isn't one of what was lost. It's a story of finding a new purpose.

Today, he holds a doctorate in transformational leadership, supports projects that provide education and care for hundreds of children in Zambia, and helps oversee an agricultural operation that provides more than 1,000 meals every day.

He also continues to live an active life with the support of his SAFO, helping him hike, run, climb mountains and even complete a triathlon.

As Matthew says:"For years I focused on everything I'd lost. Eventually I learnt to focus on everything I'd gained."

"It may be a physical support, but the confidence it gives me is so much more."

Before wearing a SAFO, Scott experienced many of the challenges associated with drop foot, including difficulty lifting his foot and frequent trips and stumbles.

The difference was immediate. Scott describes putting on his SAFO for the first time as though "someone turned a light on", giving him the confidence to move more freely and get on with everyday life.

This Drop Foot Awareness Day, Scott shares his experience and the life-changing impact the right support can have.

For Neil, a rugby injury changed more than just his ability to play sport. Living with drop foot meant the activities he loved suddenly became much more difficult.

After being fitted with a SAFO, Neil regained the confidence to move more freely and get back to doing the things that matter most to him. More than 20 years later, he continues to use his SAFO and has even gone on to represent his country in international para-badminton.

“My balance changed completely. It felt like being vertical again.”

For Scott, changes to his mobility meant that activities he had always loved, from swimming to long-distance cycling, were becoming increasingly difficult. After being fitted with a SAFO, he noticed an immediate difference. For the first time in 14 years, he could heel and toe walk, and his balance was transformed. Since then, Scott has returned to long-distance cycling, completing the 900-mile Land’s End to John O’Groats route and regularly takes on rides of 50–100 miles.

For Chloe, living with drop foot meant frequent falls were affecting both her work and everyday life. Her custom SAFOs provide the support she needs to help keep her foot in a better position when walking, helping her stay on her feet and feel safer and more confident.
