LAMINATOR / BOAT BUILDER WANTED – RAMSGATE

Audacious Marine Boats and Mouldings Ltd is looking for an experienced Laminator / Boat Builder to join our growing team in Ramsgate, Kent.

We manufacture commercial catamarans ranging from 6m to 14m for fishing, passenger, survey, safety-boat and specialist marine operations.

The role will include:

• Hand lay-up laminating using polyester resin
• Preparing and releasing moulds
• Gelcoat application
• Laminating hulls, decks, wheelhouses and internal components
• Trimming, grinding, fitting and finishing GRP parts
• Bonding and assembling vessel structures
• Repairing and making good GRP components
• Working accurately from drawings and build specifications
• Maintaining high standards of workmanship and a safe, tidy workspace

The successful applicant must:

• Have at least two years’ experience in GRP laminating or boat building
• Be experienced with polyester resin and hand lay-up techniques
• Be reliable, hardworking and able to work well within a small team
• Take pride in producing high-quality work
• Have a good understanding of workshop health and safety

This is an excellent opportunity to join a busy British boatbuilding company producing a wide range of modern commercial catamarans.

Emergency GRP Repair Completed – Fast Rescue Boat

Over the weekend, our team was tasked with carrying out temporary structural repairs to a Fast Rescue Boat (FRB) operating aboard a cross-Channel ferry.

The vessel had sustained impact damage while being recovered onto its cradle. Following a full inspection, we identified two splits in the hull laminate together with internal delamination. To allow safe access to the damaged area, the batteries were removed before repairs commenced.

The damaged laminate was carefully ground back to sound material before rebuilding the hull to the required laminate specification using marine-grade GRP repair techniques. The repair was then refinished to provide a high-quality temporary structural repair in accordance with the agreed scope of works.

Marine GRP repairs require precision, patience and attention to detail, and this project was completed over several days to ensure the highest standard of workmanship.

Whether it’s emergency repairs, insurance work, commercial vessels, passenger boats, lifeboats or new GRP construction, Audacious Marine Boats and Mouldings Ltd has the experience to deliver.
