Stunning New Mural Honours Welsh Legend At Local Valleys Pub 🖌️🎨
An incredible tribute to Welsh musical and film history is almost complete at Pontrhydyfen in Neath Port Talbot, after a weekend that brought visitors from as far as Devon to marvel at the artwork.
Local residents and tourists have been gathered at The Colliers Arms to watch the incredibly talented street artist Dave Nash, widely known as Gnasher Murals, bring a spectacular new monument to life.
Today marks the final day of painting as the artist put the finishing touches on the magnificent piece.
The mural celebrates the legendary Ivor Emmanuel in his iconic role as Private Owen from the classic film Zulu. The piece beautifully captures the unforgettable moment he leads the stirring rendition of Men of Harlech, a scene that deeply resonates with local history.
Pontrhydyfen shares powerful, deep-rooted connections to the famous movie. Not only did local icon Richard Burton provide the unmistakable narration for the film, but the village oak war memorial commemorates the son of John Williams (John Fielding), who was awarded the Victoria Cross at the real-life battle of Rorke's Drift.
The ambitious community project was made possible thanks to partial funding from the Pen y Cymoedd Wind Farm Community Fund CIC. Organisers have extended a massive thank you to Bromley, Robert, and all the dedicated staff at The Colliers Arms for their support, alongside the brilliant volunteers who worked tirelessly over the weekend to make the event such a success.
Members of the public are highly encouraged to head down to the pub today to see this amazing addition to the village landscape.
