There's something rather special about an original two-door Range Rover Classic, and this one is undergoing a complete, full restoration here at Classic Car Lab.

Just look at that beautiful, period-correct colour! It's absolutely stunning and a wonderful reminder of why these early Range Rovers have become such sought-after classics.

Ellie and Nick have been doing a magnificent job on the paintwork, with an extraordinary amount of preparation, patience and attention to detail going into getting everything just right.

A proper restoration isn't simply about making a vehicle look beautiful. It's about preserving its character, respecting its originality and bringing it back to the standard it deserves.

And this one is going to be rather special when it's finished!

🏁 JAGUAR E-TYPE SERIES 2 4.2 – SOMETIMES A CAR JUST TAKES YOUR BREATH AWAY! 💙

Every now and again, a car arrives at Classic Car Lab that really catches my eye. And this beautiful blue Jaguar E-Type Series 2 4.2 Fixed Head Coupé is certainly one of them!

Now, anyone who knows me will know that I've never been the biggest fan of Jaguar Fixed Head Coupés. In fact, Jaguars and I have had something of a love-hate relationship over the years! 😂

But I'm slowly falling back in love with them, and this particular E-Type reminds me exactly why.

Just look at that colour! 💙

The beautiful blue paintwork, those unmistakable E-Type lines and the proportions of the Series 2 all come together wonderfully. In my opinion, it's one of the most attractive Fixed Head Coupés I've seen.

If you're in the market for a Jaguar E-Type Fixed Head Coupé, I would certainly recommend taking a serious look at the Series 2 with the 4.2-litre straight-six engine.

This lovely example is currently in our workshops undergoing final preparation for its owner. With new tyres fitted and Bob, Peter, Wade and Eric all involved in getting everything just right, we're now approaching the finishing line.

It's an absolute delight to have a car like this in the workshop, and a privilege to be entrusted with its care.

CLASSIC CAR LAB – HERITAGE TO MODERN

This isn’t our usual car post… but it is very much about people.
A few days ago, our German Shorthaired Pointer, Eddy, disappeared from Morrison’s car park in Ripon.
What followed was one of the most frightening 20 hours Amanda and I have had in a long time — but also one of the most extraordinary examples of kindness and community I have ever experienced.
Within around 90 minutes, roughly 150 people were involved in one way or another. By the following morning, well over 1,000 people had joined the search, shared posts, watched roads and fields, sent sightings, contacted vets, passed messages on and helped us piece together where Eddy might be.
Most of them were complete strangers.
People from Ripon, Harrogate and the surrounding area simply saw that somebody needed help and got involved.
I’ve made a special episode of Under the Bonnet with Dino telling the whole story — where Eddy went, how the search unfolded, what we learned, and the 10 things I would now do in the first 24 hours if a dog goes missing.
Even if you’ve never lost a dog — and hopefully never will — there may be something useful in it for you or for someone you know.
But more than anything, I wanted to make the episode because I wanted to say thank you.
Thank you to everyone who shared the original posts.
Thank you to the people who walked fields, watched roads, drove around, sent sightings, contacted us, phoned vets, helped through local groups and simply kept looking.
Thank you to the people of Ripon and the surrounding communities.
Social media gets criticised for many things, but in this case it showed what it can do at its very best.
Technology spread the message. People brought Eddy home.

🔧 WELCOME, ASLEY!

We’re delighted to welcome Asley to the team at Classic Car Lab.

I’ve known Asley and his work for around 20 years, and he brings a great deal of experience in welding, fabrication and vehicle repair, including MIG, TIG, aluminium and spot welding.

Over the years he has worked on a huge variety of vehicles, from Aston Martins, Jaguars and E-Types to BMW Z3s, Mazda MX-5s, Toyota MR2s, modern classics and everyday cars.

His skills cover everything from straightforward welding repairs through to more detailed fabrication work, and he also brings with him a strong knowledge of classic and modern-classic cars.

Most importantly, he’s a knowledgeable, careful and thoroughly decent chap, and we’re very pleased to have him as part of the team.

It’s been a very busy few weeks at Classic Car Lab, with a fantastic mix of Porsches and an equally wide range of work going through the workshop.

From 1970s cars right through to a virtually new Porsche 911 Turbo, it really shows what we mean by Heritage to Modern.

Bob and the mechanical and engineering team have been extremely busy with servicing, general maintenance, upgrades, diagnostics and engine work, while Nick and the paint and body department have been equally flat out with bodywork, paint and accident repairs.

The 911 Turbo in the photographs came to us with rear accident damage. The bumper was replaced, prepared and repainted, returning the car to the standard you would expect.

Accident repair and insurance work is an area we are doing more and more of, and Connor is very much the go-to person for that side of the business.

If your car has been involved in an accident, dealing with the repair is often stressful enough without also having to navigate the insurance company. Connor regularly deals with insurance repairs and can help take much of that pressure away, helping with the process and getting the repair moving.

What we love about the workshop at the moment is the variety.

One Porsche may be in for routine servicing, another for mechanical upgrades, another for restoration work, and the next for an insurance accident repair.

Classic or modern, mechanical or bodywork, small job or major rebuild — we have the team and facilities to deal with it under one roof.

A little sneak preview from the paint shop…

This 1970s two-door Range Rover is currently undergoing restoration at Classic Car Lab, and Nick and Ellie have started getting colour onto some of the panels.

And what a colour.

We’re taking it back to a proper period look with this fantastic mustard finish, which suits an early Range Rover perfectly.

Nick and Ellie are doing a superb job with the preparation and paintwork, and judging by these first panels, this one is going to look very special when it all comes back together.

It’s still very much a work in progress, so we’re not giving too much away just yet.

THE ASTON MARTIN LAGONDA IS RESTORED.

After a huge amount of work, our Aston Martin Lagonda is finally complete — and the transformation is something very special.

A huge amount of the credit has to go to Nick, the artist behind the paintwork. Painting a Lagonda properly is an enormous challenge. It is a huge car, with long, razor-straight panels and nowhere for imperfections to hide.

Nick has done an exceptional job and deserves full credit for the finish you see here, with Ellie working alongside him and supporting the preparation and paint process.

The result is simply stunning.

The bodywork, preparation and final paint have all come together beautifully, and the Lagonda now looks every bit as dramatic as Aston Martin intended.

We’ve put together a short video showing the completed car.

💙 Some cars just stand out…

Over the years, we’ve had the privilege of working on more than 30 Jaguar E-Types at Classic Car Lab — from servicing and mechanical repairs through to extensive restorations.

But every now and again, one comes through the doors that really stands out for me.

And this is one of them.

A 1970 Jaguar E-Type Series 2 4.2 Roadster, finished in the most beautiful blue. It really is an exceptional car and, in my opinion, one of those E-Types that looks just right from every angle.

The car came to us with a number of inherited issues which needed proper investigation rather than simply replacing parts and hoping for the best.

Our work included sorting problems in the braking system, replacing the front crankshaft seal, addressing oil leaks around the sump, attention to the exhaust and cooling system, electrical repairs, and a number of smaller jobs, followed by careful checks and road testing to make sure everything was behaving as it should.

Our team worked there way through them, ably assisted by Wade, and it was wonderful to receive this Google review from the owner afterwards:

Sometimes one word from a customer says everything.

For us, looking after classic cars isn't simply about repairing them. It’s about having the experience to understand them, diagnose problems properly and help their owners enjoy them as they were meant to be enjoyed.

And after more than 30 E-Types, I still don't think I’ll ever get tired of seeing that bonnet stretching out in front of me!
