Passed your test? Brilliant. Now here's something every new driver needs to know. πŸš—

For the first two years after you pass your practical driving test, you're under the New Drivers Act. It applies across England, Scotland and Wales.

The key rule: if you accumulate 6 or more penalty points in those first two years, your licence is automatically revoked. You'd have to reapply for a provisional licence and retake both tests.

Six points can come from two speeding offences, one mobile phone offence, or one insurance offence.

Mind and check your mirrors, stick to the speed limit, and put the phone away β€” every single journey.

Huge congratulations to Leigh, who passed in Oban in an automatic after an intensive course. She was previously a really nervous driver, but she absolutely smashed through those nerves and came out with a brilliant pass β€” and she's off to the US soon with her licence in hand!

Massive congratulations to Ethan, who passed in Oban in a manual β€” a fantastic first-time pass after travelling all the way from Islay. That kind of dedication deserves a big shout-out!

And a huge congratulations to Amy, who passed first time in Oban in an automatic after building her confidence through weekly automatic lessons. Amy passed in her own Motability car, and that brilliant smile says everything about how much the result meant. After getting the help from Motability and us! The DVSA has updated its 'Ready to Pass?' campaign with a focus on 27 essential driving skills. Their research shows learners who take their test before feeling confident are 25% more likely to fail on their first attempt.

The updated Ready to Pass? website helps you track your progress across all 27 skills. Dinnae compare your progress with somebody else's. Progress is more important than perfection.

🏴󠁧󠁒󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 BREAKING NEWS: SEVEN-MONTH DRIVING TEST WAIT REPORTED IN SCOTLAND

Learner drivers at some Scottish test centres are facing median waits of up to seven months between booking and taking their practical test, according to new analysis by the RAC Foundation.

The figures, based on DVSA statistics for June 2026, name three Scottish centres among the worst in the UK:

β€’ Forfar (Angus): 29.7 weeks β€” the longest in the UK
β€’ Callander (Stirling): 27.7 weeks
β€’ Arbroath (Angus): 27 weeks

Scottish centres account for six of the nine worst-performing centres nationally. In Edinburgh and Glasgow, the average was 17.3 weeks.

The 29.7-week figure for Forfar is a median waiting time β€” meaning half of learners who completed their test in June waited less than this, and half waited longer. It does not represent the wait at every Scottish centre.

The DVSA said the Great Britain-wide median was 10.7 weeks in June 2026, with test availability at its highest since November 2024. However, the government's target of reducing waits to seven weeks has been missed, and Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander has said it may not be achieved until autumn 2027.
