We went on a maiden motorway trip a couple of days ago and my mate following me said we were doing almost 60 mph. It felt that there was a lot left to go. However on ordinary roads when going uphill the power drops off enormously and soon we are back down to 2nd gear. A quick read on the owners club forum pointed me to the mechanical advance in the distributer. They are a pair of offsett weights which throw out from 2000 revs and providean extra 10 to 20 degress of advance to keep the power curve climbing. A 45 minute strip down, free, clean, and lubricate has done the trick and now she deserves me bying a Cooper S sticker for the back window.

Today weve been on a run. Not far, about 5 miles rond the block to discover the brakes are better than I thought. Then off to te paint suppliers who 'read' various places and settled for the stuff in the cans. While waiting I checked google for the correct tyre pressures and dropped them from 30 & 40 to the correct 24 & 26 so the journey home was much more pleasant.
Adjusted the door mirrors but added doors popping open and an oil leek to the list.

Long hot drive. Bridgend near Cardiff and back in a car transporter through 3 major motorway hold ups. 10 hours in all, eatimng snap and driking water, fruit joice and coffee as we drove. Thanks Dino for all your support and thanks to the vendor Jonathon of Evans Classics for the help with loading. She's pretty but fettled for sale so only time will tell whether she is a bargain or a banger. Service and MOT checkup booked for Friday 5th. More photos to after.
