A critical reminder on the importance of regular servicing for all 1.2 petrol wet belt engines across Peugeot, Citroën, Vauxhall, Opel, and DS vehicles.

While the manufacturer recommends replacing the timing belt every 60,000 miles, strict adherence to annual service intervals is just as essential.

We recently worked on a vehicle with only 45,000 miles that suffered premature timing belt failure due to overdue servicing.
When service intervals are missed, the timing belt can deteriorate rapidly.

Rubber debris from the belt enters the engine oil system, leading to severe issues such as:
Low oil pressure (potentially causing total engine failure)
Blocked vacuum pumps, resulting in a hard brake pedal and reduced braking efficiency

Ford recommend these belts are replaced every 10 years or 150,000 miles, we are sure most people will hit the 10 year mark before the 150,000 miles.

We recommend getting it done between 6-8 years or 60-80,000 miles as we are seeing lots of premature belt failures due to a lack of servicing or incorrect oil used. Causing unrepairable engine damage resulting in a new engine.
