Another headache, you might call it! 😂

This one took us longer than expected, but we got there in the end and the customer was over the moon with the difference.

Existing modifications:

• GTD turbo upgrade
• DPF delete
• EGR blanked

We had originally supplied the calibration for this van through a third party. The customer had been driving it for some time without any issues but felt there was still more performance available, so he booked it in with us for dyno testing.

On the initial run, the van produced 153 bhp more than 50 bhp above its standard output and already a significant improvement. However, we knew the hardware was capable of more.

We took a fresh virtual read and tested several alternative reseller calibrations, initially believing the issue could have been caused by our original file. However, each of these performed worse than the calibration already fitted.

We then started again, using data logging on the dyno to investigate further. The logs showed that the requested fuelling was not being achieved and was considerably below target. After several revisions, we established that the IQ maps were not following the requested values, suggesting that an unidentified limiter elsewhere in the calibration was restricting fuel delivery.

After many hours of testing and with several tuners examining the file, we were still unable to exceed 153 bhp using the usual calibration changes. To overcome the fuelling restriction, we had to carefully rework the injection-duration maps and complete several further revisions.

The final result was 201 bhp and 473 Nm.

That was slightly less horsepower than we had originally expected but it was still a massive improvement and a completely different van to drive!

We brought the turbo in earlier, significantly reducing factory lag achieving a far more consistent power delivery.

Custom Stage 1+ 201 HP & 473 NM

Nick’s pride and joy was back on the rollers tonight after having some exhaust work done.

We applied our OPF/GPF solutions, followed by a quick dyno run to make sure everything was data logging exactly as it should. We also added switchable pops in Sport mode. This isn’t something we can offer on every car just yet but it’s something we’re continuing to develop. 😎

Unfortunately, we’ve got one of those strict dynos that doesn’t hand out the dream figures everyone wants to see! 🤷‍♂️

Even with a warm dyno cell at over 20°C, it still produced a healthy 320 BHP and 470 Nm.

More importantly, the data looks exactly where we want it. 1.6 bar of controlled boost, ignition corrections kept to a minimum and well within tolerance on 98 octane fuel, fuelling exactly where it should be and IATs reaching around 40°C at the top end following a 14-second run.

Good figures are always nice to see, but a healthy, controlled and consistent setup is what matters most. 👌
