****Changes to Driving Test booking rules *****

There have been some key changes to how pupils book a practical driving test.

Key Changes to Explain (As of May 2026):Only Learner Drivers Can Book: From 12 May 2026, instructors and third-party apps can no longer book or manage tests. Only you can book and manage your test.

Limit of 2 Changes: Since 31 March 2026, you are limited to making a maximum of two changes to your test date or time. After that, you must cancel and rebook.

Localized Testing: From 9 June 2026, if you need to move your test, you can only switch to nearby test centers to prevent swapping to distant, quieter areas.

Greenham tests can only be swapped to:
* Basingstoke (approx. 14miles away)
* Reading )approx. 17miles away)
* Winchester (approx. 26 miles away)

The rules for booking and managing car driving tests will change from spring 2026. Find out what the changes are and how they affect you.

📢 Remember that from tomorrow (31 March), you will only be able to make 2 changes to a car driving test booking.

A change counts as:
✅ changing the date or time
✅ changing the test centre
✅ swapping your appointment with another learner who has a test booked

If you need to make more changes after you have used your 2 changes, you will need to cancel your test and book a new one.

🐄🐄🐄Cattle due in Hungerford Common around 15th April🐄🐄🐄

Cattle are often in the road between April and October; you should drive slowly and be prepared to wait.

Key Driving Tips for Hungerford Common:
* Slow Down: Drive at a reduced speed, as cows can be in the road or on verges.
*Cattle Right of Way: Always allow the herd to pass. If they are in the road, be patient.
*Do Not Use Horns: If cows are blocking the way, do not use your horn. Instead, get out of your car and calmly ask them to move, or clap your hands to move them along.
*Be Mindful of Activity: The cattle are on the common until late October and are frequently present on the roads, particularly when other routes like the A4 are closed.

***Safety Notice: Accidents have resulted in cattle fatalities and serious injuries; driving carefully helps prevent this.***

We’re putting learners in control of their car driving test bookings 🚘

If you’ve got a booking or you’ll be looking for a test soon, make a note of these dates 📅

31 March 2026 – only 2 changes can be made to a booking

12 May 2026 – only learners are allowed to book a test and make changes

9 June 2026 – learners can move their booked test only to nearby centres

By changing who can book car and change driving tests, we’re aiming to reduce the re-selling of driving tests, giving the power back to learners 💪

*****Attention*****
New changes coming to the UK driving test bookings.

📢 The rules for booking a practical car driving test are changing.

From 31 March 2026, learner drivers and approved driving instructors (ADIs) will only be able to change a driving test booking up to 2 times.

A change includes:
- changing the date or time
- changing the test centre
- swapping an appointment with another learner

If you’re an ADI, please make sure your pupils only book their test when they’re ready as swapping between pupils will count towards this limit. You can set times when you're available to take your pupils to their driving tests. This stops your pupils from booking tests at times that do not work for you.

👉 When this comes into force, everyone with a driving test booked will have 2 changes available, regardless of how many changes they may have already made.

This change is part of the outcome of our consultation to improve the way driving tests are booked.

❄️ Driving in the Snow Today?
Read This FIRST. ❄️

If you don’t need to go out — DON’T.
The safest journey today is the one you don’t make.

With heavy snow and icy conditions across our area, roads are slippery, visibility is low, and hazards are high.

But if driving is essential, be prepared. Here’s what every driver needs to know. 👇

✅ DOs for Driving in Snow & Ice:

✅ Do drive slowly and smoothly – harsh movements cause skids.

✅ Do increase your following distance – 10 seconds minimum.

✅ Do clear ALL snow and ice from your windows, mirrors, lights, and roof.

✅ Do use low gears when setting off or climbing hills.

✅ Do brake gently and in good time.

✅ Do carry winter essentials: blanket, charged phone, scraper, water, snacks.

🚫 DON’Ts for Driving in Snow & Ice:

❌ Don’t go out unless it’s essential. Reschedule non-urgent trips.

❌ Don’t rely on 4WD or ABS — they're not foolproof.

❌ Don’t use cruise control. You need full control at all times.

❌ Don’t tailgate. Stopping distances can be 10x longer in snow or ice.

❌ Don’t panic in a skid – steer into it and ease off the accelerator.

❌ Don’t drive with snow on your windows or roof. It's illegal and unsafe.

****You don’t rise to the level of the conditions — you fall to the level of your preparation.*****
