UK Prep - Rear Fog Light

Part of the process of preparing any Japanese imported car to the UK, is installing a rear fog light. The reason for this is because vehicles in Japan do not require a rear fog light but in the UK, and also part of the European vehicle type approval, a rear fog light is required.

At PD Japanese Imports , we pride ourselves on installing the rear fog light to give the same look and feel as if it was installed by the factory.

One thing to look out for is some installers will drill a hole in the dash and fit a round switch. This really isn’t necessary.

As you can see from the picture, we like to go the extra mile and take our time to do a neat and tidy install for the new owner.

Thinking about buying a Nissan Elgrand? Don’t know enough about these cars? Want to know more?

When you first start looking at Nissan Elgrand’s, it can be a daunting challenge as there are so many different models to choose from.

Our advice would be to speak to owners of these fabulous vehicles to gain a full understanding of the pros and cons of ownership and you can do this by visiting the following pages

Nissan Elgrand Club UK & Europe (E50 • E51 • E52)

The Nissan Elgrand Club

There are more Elgrand pages to visit but the two above a just a starting point.

Some FAQ’s and tips that you might want to research are as follows

• Engine size - 2.5 or 3.5?

• Fuel economy

• Annual road tax

• Auction report from Japan. This can also be a useful document to prove the mileage is correct.

• Underseal protection - has this been applied correctly? Due to Japan not using salt on their roads, vehicles used in Japan do not have underseal protection and will lead to corrosion if not treated prior to use in the UK.

• Has the car been fully serviced, including the gearbox?

• Tyres - Do they meet EU regulations/standards for use in the UK and if buying a low mileage car are the tyres within the recommended 10 year age limit?

• Rear fog light installed? Vehicles used in Japan do not require a rear fog light and as part of the UK preparation work, this is a job that needs to be do prior to its first MOT. Believe it or not. Some imported vehicles are sold to new owners without a rear fog light installed but they still somehow manage to have 12 months MOT and the buyer is unaware until its next MOT which is more expense for the new owner. But more importantly, what else was missed in the MOT?

• Rear fog light switch - Has the installer simply drilled a hole in the dash and installed a random switch or has care and time being taken to install an OEM style switch which leads to a factory look and feel?

The above is just a snippet of the sort of things that a new buyer needs to look into.

Gear Selector Illumination

One of of the questions we are often asked is should gear selector display illuminate on the E52 Elgrand and the simple answer is yes.

Replacing the bulb is a straightforward job. You simply

• Remove a few panels from near the climate control and gear selector area

• Remove the screws holding the climate control system in place.

• Remove the bulb holder from the back of the gear selector by rotating the holder.

• Replace the bulb and reassemble.
