Bringing this Massey Ferguson 188 back to life 🔧

This one is really starting to take shape now after a full strip-down and rebuild.

The engine has had a complete overhaul — new pistons, liners, crankshaft and valves — giving it a solid, reliable heart again. The gearbox has been checked through and adjusted to ensure smooth operation, just as it should be.

Hydraulics haven’t been overlooked either, with the pumps fully overhauled to restore proper performance.

The entire tractor has been shot blasted to remove years of wear, damage and rust, giving us a clean foundation to build from. It’s now had a full repaint in high-quality finishes, and we’re getting very close to the final stages.

The next project is well underway.

This Massey Ferguson 188 skid unit has now been fully blasted and has received its first two coats of primer, giving us a clean foundation to work from.

A large batch of panels and components are prepped and ready for a full blast to reveal any hidden issues, all of which will be meticulously repaired to the highest standard.

Meanwhile, the engine is already in the rebuild stage after its new liners and boring, it’s now ready for its fresh internals.

We look forward to seeing this one finished along with its 4WD sister tractor. 🚜

A 290 is now with its owner who is very pleased. This one was built on a budget and is far from concourse but by working closely with the customer we made sure every penny went into the areas that mattered most.

The rear window frame and wings were rusted away to an unserviceable condition and were unavailable off the shelf so they were made in house.

A good tidy-up with the key jobs done right including an engine overhaul now running well.
The tractor is looking sharp, and ready for work again.

Proof that you don’t need a full restoration to bring these machines back to life… just the right approach.

Massey Ferguson 188 Engine 🔧🚜

This 188, Perkins 248 started up and ran really well, which on the surface might make you think it was in good order. But once stripped down, the liners told a very different story — badly damaged and in need of replacement.

It proves exactly what we say here at Murphisons you cannot judge an engine’s true condition by how well it starts or runs. Until it’s stripped and inspected properly, you just don’t know what’s hiding inside.

Full rebuild ahead for this one, and we’ll share the progress as it comes together.

Things are non-stop here at Murphisons

This Massey Ferguson 590 has arrived for a full nut-and-bolt restoration alongside the other tractors and projects we’ve got on the go, but we wouldn’t have it any other way. This one’s going to be stripped right down, rebuilt, and brought back to life.

Plenty of long hours ahead, but we’re looking forward to showing you the transformation as it happens. Stay tuned for progress shots — it’s going to be a good one! 🔧🎨

🚜🔧 Quick Project Between Tractors 🔧🚜

While the tractors keep us busy, sometimes it’s nice to squeeze in a smaller project. This week we built a custom ladder rack for the truck – fabricated, welded and painted for a neat, factory-style finish.

It’s solid, practical, and adds a proper Murphisons touch to the truck 👌🏻. Rear work lights are always handy.

Back to the tractors now – but it’s always good to break things up with a quick build!

Today We’re fabricating a new rear window frame for a Massey Ferguson 290. The original frame has deteriorated and is no longer fit for purpose, so we’re replacing it with a fresh, durable build to restore both strength and appearance. If it is not available, we make it.

The 290 has now been fully shot-blasted back to bare metal. 💥
Next up: degreasing and paint prep to get it ready for a fresh new finish. 🎨

Every stage brings this tractor one step closer to looking and working like new again. Keep an eye out — the transformation is just beginning! 👀✨

🚜 Another Project Alert! 🚜

Rolling into the Murphisons workshop this morning… a true classic – the Massey Ferguson 135.

This little red workhorse is one of the most loved tractors ever built – simple, reliable, and tough. She’s earned her keep out in the fields for many years but now it’s time to give her the full Murphisons restoration treatment.

Stay tuned as in the next few weeks we will strip her down, blast away years of hard graft, and rebuild her into something that looks as good as the day she left the factory. 👨‍🏭✨
