ƆTUMFOƆ SANTEHENE DESTOOLS PARAMOUNT CHIEF OF KENYASE NO. 2

The Asanteman Council, presided over by Ɔtumfiɔ Ɔsɛe Tutu II, convened today at the Manhyia Palace to deliberate on several traditional matters affecting the Asante Kingdom.

The sitting began with the official thanksgiving and presentation of Ɔdɛɛfoɔ Kyerɛ Diaboɔ Asante II, Berekumhene, and Ɔbiri Kɔmfo Anɔkye Boakye II, Agonahene, who formally paid homage to the Asantehene following their recent swearing of the Oath of Allegiance.

The Council subsequently heard a number of important cases, including the Asante Mampong–Mprim land dispute, the Duayaw-Nkwanta stool dispute, and the petition concerning Kenyase No. 2.

After hearing the matter, the Ɔtumfoɔ and the Asanteman Council unanimously ordered the destoolment of Odeneho Kwabena Nsia Ababio, Paramount Chief of Kenyase No. 2, together with some of his principal stool elders, leaving only the Kontihene and Akyeamehene in office.

Odeneho Kwabena Nsia Ababio was widely regarded as the longest-serving chief in the Asante Kingdom, having occupied the stool for approximately 89 years. Installed initially in 1937 as an Ɔdikro, he was later elevated to Ɔbrempɔn and eventually recognised as Ɔmanhene, serving 3 Asantehenes in Asante history.

Among the findings considered by the Council were allegations that he had acted beyond the authority of his stool by creating and installing offices such as the Akyɛmpimhene, Hyiawuhene, Sumankwaahene, Anantahene, and Atipimhene stools which, under Asante custom, are reserved exclusively for creation by the Asantehene.

The Council also considered issues relating to the purported destoolment of the Kenyase Queen Mother, the allocation of stools to close family members contrary to custom, the conduct of the chief’s household in the administration of the traditional area, and the reported marginalisation of the Queen Mother and sections of the royal family.

Today’s decision serves as a reminder that within Asanteman, no occupant of a stool is above the customs, laws, and traditions of the kingdom. The authority of every traditional ruler is exercised within the framework of the constitution and customs of Asanteman, with the Asanteman Council remaining the final arbiter in matters affecting the integrity of the institution.

Silver Jubilee of Asantehene Otumfuo Opoku Ware II: A Historic Celebration in Kumasi, 1995 🇬🇭👑

On August 14, 1995, Kumasi became the heartbeat of Ghana’s living history as Asantehene Otumfuo Opoku Ware II celebrated an unforgettable milestone the 25th anniversary (Silver Jubilee) of his reign on the Golden Stool of Asante.

It wasn’t just a royal ceremony. It was a powerful national moment that brought together traditional leaders, government dignitaries, and the people of Ghana to honour a reign that had reaffirmed the strength of Asante identity while reinforcing the enduring relevance of chieftaincy in modern public life.

In the historic photograph from the day, Otumfuo Opoku Ware II is pictured with Flight Lieutenant Jerry John Rawlings. then President of Ghana symbolizing the meaningful partnership between traditional authority and national leadership .The scene captures a truth deeply rooted in Ghana’s story: the past is not distant , it lives in institutions that continue to shape the present.

Otumfuo Opoku Ware II, born Jacob Matthew Poku, was enstooled as the 15th Asantehene on July 27, 1970, following the passing of Otumfuo Sir Osei Agyeman Prempeh II. His reign would span 1970 to his passing in 1999, remembered for its commitment to Asante customs, support for education, and global representation of Asante culture with dignity and purpose.

That Silver Jubilee in 1995 was more than a celebration of years , it was a reminder of the Golden Stool’s spiritual and political significance, the strength of the Asante Kingdom , and the lasting role of traditional leadership in Ghana’s national journey.

A moment where tradition met history, and where Ghana’s cultural foundation** stood proudly alongside the modern state. 🇬🇭👑

Demolition Intensifies at Asafo as Authorities Crack Down on Illegal Activities

ONGOING: Asafo, Behind COCOBOD—Demolition Continues
Demolition work is currently ongoing at Asafo, located behind COCOBOD, as the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) ramps up efforts to clear illegal structures in the area. Officials say the operation is not a one day task rather, it’s part of a broader enforcement push aimed at restoring order and protecting the community.

Authorities Say More Locations Will Be Targeted
According to information from the authorities, the demolition exercise is expected to expand beyond the Asafo zone. Officials stated that the exercise will be extended to three additional locations within the area, as long as the illegal structures and associated illegal activities continue.

What This Crackdown Is Meant to Stop
The KMA says the exercise is designed to halt and disrupt illegal operations, including:
- Drug trading ,which authorities say has been thriving in areas linked to illegal occupation
- Commercial s*x activities involving minors ,a serious violation that puts children at risk
- Sexual exploitation involving adults, as authorities move to dismantle the networks enabling these harmful practices

Why It Matters
Beyond the removal of buildings, this operation sends a strong message ;illegal activity that endangers lives especially those of minors will not be tolerated . The KMA’s continued action indicates the assembly is committed to strengthening public safety, reducing criminal opportunities, and creating a safer environment for residents.

A TRIBUTE TO SHARON DEDE PADI (PADIKI)

The passing of Sharon Dede Padi (Padiki) is not only a loss to Ghana’s creative arts industry but also to our cultural heritage.

Padiki will be remembered as the first and official Guinness World Records holder for the World’s Largest Leaf-Print Painting, an extraordinary masterpiece measuring 54.33 square metres, created entirely from natural leaf prints and depicting the Ghanaian flag. Through this remarkable achievement, she projected Ghanaian creativity, culture, and environmental consciousness onto the global stage. (Pulse Ghana)

Beyond her international acclaim, Padiki shared a deep admiration for Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and the institution of the Golden Stool. Through her artwork, she consistently celebrated Asante culture and Ghana’s traditional heritage, recognising the Asantehene as one of the nation’s foremost custodians of culture and identity. Her artistic engagements with Manhyia and her reverence for Otumfuo reflected her unwavering commitment to preserving and promoting our traditions through visual art. (padikiartgallery.com)

Though her brush has fallen silent, the colours she used to tell Ghana’s story will continue to inspire generations.

On behalf of Voice of Asanteman, we extend our heartfelt condolences to her family, the creative arts fraternity, and all Ghanaians mourning this immense loss.

May her soul rest in perfect peace, and may her legacy forever remain etched in the history of Ghanaian art.
