Hel's Ls - driver training with Helen Roffey

Hel's Ls - driver training with Helen Roffey I am a fully qualified Grade A manual driving instructor covering Bromley and surrounding areas. I cover all BR postcodes and many SE,CR and TN postcodes too.

I cover test centres at West Wickham, Sevenoaks, Sidcup and Hither Green. If you plan to take your test in any of these centres, give me a call! Lesson price are competitive and deals are available if you wish to book a set of hours. Lessons are usually 2 hours as this gives the customer the maximum amount of actual practice time each lesson, and are the most cost-effective, however shorter sessions are available. I look forward to hearing from you.

Unfortunately I'm grounded because of a potentially known manufacturing fault, putting my business at serious risk.

I've decided to come out fighting. After a lengthy search for a hire replacement vehicle which has proved unsuccessful i will be sourcing a new vehicle, i even considered joining a local driving school!

I face a fight with my car's manufacturer but I can't let that stop me. New car, new life. I'm on my way back to work! Bear with me gang...

Congratulations Hannah on your brrrr-illiant first time pass today at West Wickham. Examiner commented that it was a very good drive, high praise indeed! In spite of the sub zero temperature when we set off for the test centre at silly o'clock you kept a reign on any nerves and smashed it! Happy days 😄 Enjoy your new independence and keep driving safely x

Rural and country lanes often have a national speed limit of 60 mph, but that doesn't mean it's safe to maintain that speed. Be aware that in such roads you are MORE LIKELY to encounter wildlife - badgers, deer, foxes, hedgehogs - particularly at night. Slow down, be aware 👀. Remember the road came after the animals' habitat.

What should I do if I'm at a red light and an emergency vehicle needs to get through?

We get asked this quite a lot so hopefully this explains.

Emergency 'blue light' vehicles have three exemptions in law. Speed limits, red lights and keep left signs.

If we are looking to make progress with blue lights and siren, we are asking you to let us through.

If possible, move over to somewhere safe and allow us past. There's no need to mount kerbs or verges or make sudden moves. We won't come past until we know you have seen us.

If you are at a red light and you can let us through, please do so but we don't want you to go through the red light, moving aside is fine but going through the light isn't. Doing so is an offence and you can be fined or receive points for doing it. Similarly, going through a red light and ending up in a collision could place liability on you.

If we can't make progress we do something called effective non-use. The lights stay on, the siren goes off. This is saying 'I'd like to come through when I can'.

Other helpful things to consider would be not stopping dead in your tracks. Often it's safer to keep going and let us pass in a safe place.

Stopping on a bend, the brow of a hill or directly opposite another vehicle makes it harder to get past too. In these situations it's better that you keep going until the road opens up and we can pass safely when we have a view.

The bottom line is, we don't want you to commit offences to let us through, just make it easier for us to get past if you can.
