Petrol vs electric: what does it actually cost each month?

A typical UK driver covering 10,000 miles a year pays around £142 a month on fuel. That's before you factor in servicing, MOTs, insurance or breakdown cover.

We surveyed over 2,000 UK drivers, and nearly 40% said the price of getting an electric car is what's holding them back.

Here's how it works. An employee's car payment is deducted from their gross salary — before Income Tax and National Insurance are calculated. Factor in the 4% Benefit in Kind rate on electric vehicles (one of the lowest rates available), and the saving against a private lease can reach up to 50%.
