The Hardest Part of My Job Isn't Teaching People to Drive…
It's telling someone they're not ready for their driving test.
Believe me, this is never a conversation I enjoy having. I know how much excitement, time, money and effort goes into reaching a test date.
But a test date is something we work towards—it isn't a guarantee that you'll be ready by that day.
One thing I want people to understand is that I don't recommend moving a test to get more lessons. If anything, I'd much rather see a pupil pass first time and move on.
My goal has never been to teach someone just enough to scrape through a 40-minute driving test. My goal is to help people become safe, confident, independent drivers for life. Passing the test is important, but it's only the beginning of driving on your own.
If I tell someone they're not quite ready, it's because I genuinely believe it's in their best interests. I'd rather have one difficult conversation than watch someone fail, lose confidence, spend more money on another test and face another long wait.
I also want to say that if anyone ever has concerns about their lessons, their progress or my teaching, please talk to me as soon as possible. I genuinely welcome honest feedback, and I'd much rather have those conversations early than discover someone has been unhappy for weeks or months only after a difficult decision has to be made.
The hardest decision isn’t always the easiest.
