Run-flat tyres: what most drivers get wrong
Run-flats let you keep driving after a puncture - typically around 50 miles at up to 50mph. Brilliant when it happens on a motorway at night.
Three things people don't realise:
Once run flat, it's finished. Even if it looks fine, the sidewall has done its job and cannot be repaired.
You often can't feel it. Many run-flat cars have no spare at all, so your TPMS warning light is the only thing telling you.
They're not universally repairable. Some manufacturers rule it out entirely.
Not sure whether yours are run-flats? Look for RFT, ROF, ZP or DSST on the sidewall.
