☀️🔋 Mobility Scooter Batteries & Hot Weather

With temperatures rising this week, a few simple precautions can help keep your mobility scooter or powerchair batteries performing at their best:

🔹 Charge as normal – Warm weather doesn't mean charging less often. Always recharge your batteries fully after use.

🔹 Keep out of direct sunlight – Whenever possible, park your scooter in the shade or indoors. Batteries and electronics don't appreciate sitting in 30°C+ heat for long periods.

🔹 Allow batteries to cool before charging – After a longer journey, leave the batteries for 15–30 minutes before plugging them in.

🔹 Check protective covers – Summer showers and thunderstorms can appear unexpectedly. Ensure charger ports and tiller covers are fitted properly to prevent water ingress.

🔹 Keep an eye on battery range – Extremely hot weather can affect battery efficiency, particularly if your batteries are older.

🔹 Don't cover chargers while in use – Chargers need ventilation. Avoid placing bags, clothing, or cushions over them during charging.

🔹 Lithium batteries handle heat better – Lithium batteries generally cope with higher temperatures better than AGM or GEL batteries, but they should still never be left in a hot conservatory or vehicle.

The biggest cause of premature battery failure isn't hot weather – it's leaving batteries partially discharged. Keeping them fully charged will help maximise their lifespan.
